159/Brera PUMP UP28

I was chatting with an Alfa specialist about my Brera and his 159, and he pointed out the "Pumpe UP28" inside both engines. He said this pump increases engine performance so that the V6 could to 100kms/hr in 4.8 seconds instead of 6.8s.

I went home and googled and it turns out it's a brake vacuum pump... So I can't correlate what he said.

Anyone here an expert give an explanation of it's purpose and whether there's truth in what he said about power boost?

He said this pump weren't normally installed in the Brera's, just the 159s, so he think it was an aftermarket job...?

I'm definitely no expert but if he is an 'Alfa Specialist' I would not be taking my car to him!
If it's a brake booster vacuum pump, it would aid in brake performance, not engine performance.

A 2 second quicker 0-100 time would involve some serious weight reduction and an engine tune at least, not an air pump for the braking system.

Unless I am wrong???

I probably shouldn't say specialist, more enthusiast. He's about 60 now but he's a pure Italian and has owned dozens of Alfa's all his life since 16yrs old. He pulls Alfa's apart and sells the parts so he knows a lot about them. Just intriguing what he said.

The device in question is the Vacuum Pump for the brake booster.

As for your Alfa Specialist/Enthusiast - I don't know what he's on . . . but I'll have a "key" of it!
