State Council & CAMS Board Election Update

Good afternoon,

As promised in communication yesterday, I can now confirm the appropriate procedure for ensuring ongoing Victorian representation on the Board of CAMS following the resignation of Mr. Peter Bready.

Under the Constitution of the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport Limited, ordinarily "in the event of the death, removal, resignation or disqualification from office of an Elected Director, the relevant Alternate Elected Director from the relevant State Council shall fill the casual vacancy. The Alternate Elected Director will hold office for the balance of the calendar year of the Elected Director who has vacated the Board and a new Elected Director will be elected in accordance with this Constitution for the remainder of the term.".

As you are aware, following the resignation of Mr. Bill Bennett, the Victoria State Council had not acted to appoint by means of a by-election a replacement Alternate Elected Director, which now leaves the Victoria State Council currently without direct voting representation at Board level. Whilst the Constitution does not envisage this exact set of circumstances occurring, it is appropriate that the Victorian State Council now hold a by-election for the position of Alternate Elected Director to fill the casual vacancy of Elected Director until December 31 2008. In order to expedite the reestablishment of Victorian voting rights representation at Board level, the Victoria State Council shall hold a special meeting at 8pm on Wednesday 24th September 2008. This meeting shall deal with the by-election for the Alternate Elected Board Director only.

Mr. Peter Bready's term of office as Elected Board Director extended until 31 December 2009. As such it will be necessary for the Victoria State Council to elect a replacement Elected Board Director to fill the casual vacancy from 1 January 2009 until 31 December 2009. The election for the position of Elected Board Director shall occur in line with the scheduled State Council Meeting on Wednesday 29th October 2008, at which the positions of State Council Chairman, Deputy State Council Chairman, 5x State Council Executive Members, and Alternate Elected Director for 2009 shall also be elected in line with previous advice.

Nominations for the by-election for Alternate Elected Director are now open, and shall be received by the Returning Officer until the commencement of the meeting on Wednesday 24th September 2008.

Nominations for the election of Elected Board Director to fill the casual vacancy are also now open, and shall be received by the Returning Officer until the commencement of the meeting on Wednesday  29th October. Nominations for all other positions as advised earlier remain open and similarly shall be received by the Returning Officer until the commencement of the meeting on Wednesday 29th October.

Attached to this document are the Nomination Forms for:

By-election Alternate Elected Director for the term 24th September 2008 to 31 December 2008.
Elected Board Director for the casual vacancy term of 1 January 2009 to 31 December 2009.

Prior communication to Club delegates contained the Nomination Forms for all other positions available. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require further copies of those forms.

It is important at this time that all Clubs ensure that Delegates or their Alternates are available to attend both the 24th September and 29th October meetings.
