Yep exactly. On this occasion I couldn't be bothered with the wait and the time wasters and low ballers I knew would happen.

When trading in, it's all about the "Change over price".

They came close to a change over I was happy with and that's all that counts really, regardless of how the numbers are moved around on the page.

Rather than upping the offer on the 147, they discounted the car I was buying. All the same thing.

yeah, pretty much the same reason we traded the Escape.

Incidentally, after the 2012 Forester was written off by a red-light runner when it was just over 2 years old (so just past the new-for-old replacement cut-off under our insurance) I also vowed I will never again buy a brand new car.

The depreciation impact on the insurance payout meant I still ended up thousands out of pocket when buying a replacement.

Well today I'm wearing my "NINE ONE SIX" t-shirt to work, along with my piloti driving shoes, and I drove the GTV in to work, on what is pretty much the last drive of the car under my ownership.

Tomorrow I will wash and vacuum it, and sign it over to it's new owner.

....my son :)

Huzzah! ;D

Indeed! :)

Only now I'm finding myself saying things like "yep we'll get it serviced and fix that window winder and I'll help you out with the cost".

lol......I dont think this outcome has helped me much hhahahahaha.

But what a great first car, and this was my original plan back when I even purchased the silver one. The GTV was eventually meant to be for this son, and the Beetle for the other.

I just kind of....forgot ;)

Everyone's a winner.

Well you say that :P

I did the right thing and took it in for a service saying I'd pay half.

But then as I know the car, I left it with instructions of "oh and change the thermostat, and the temp sensor, and see what you can do with that window that doesn't work".

As always Leo and the guys did a great job and the car now has 2 fully working windows and temp ranges 100% normal.

.....and I ended up paying 2/3's of the bill coz I couldn't bring myself to make my boy pay half lol.

Look at it this way - you have appointed a custodian to look after your car who paid a small stipend for the privilege, and who is also now contributing a proportion of the upkeep.

Absolutely. The verbal agreement is that, should he consider selling it in the future, I have first refusal.

Look....if I ever "come back to the fold" it really should be in one of the following:

Classic Busso powered Alfetta
Busso 916
Busso 937
or if I need it as a cruiser.....
Facelift 156 or a 1750TBi

TBH with the last 2, I'd also be considering scratching an odd Audi/BMW itch that I now also have.

But my point is, regardless of the above, that little twin spark is so great! And despite it's fading bonnet paint, the car is in tip top shape. Picking it up from Leo's yesterday I glanced around the car park, and (no offence to anyone) but I swear it looked like one of the best examples there that day.

Paying for little things like a window that wont go up and down, in my mind, moves it from being a $3K car to a $5K car in the eyes of the average punter. It's an investment for sure.

Throw maybe $1K at some paint in the places it needs it, and wait for a tan leather interior to come up at a wreckers in good condition, and I think it's a winner.

But all optional of course.

That reminds me...... Finally threw this together (filmed it ages ago)

Just had to share....

1) My son, without mentioning anything to me, shared fresh photos of his new toy (the 916) on instagram. He doesn't show much emotion about it to me, but clearly he's proud of it.

2) This morning, I'm sitting IN the Porsche, warming up the engine, waiting for my son to move the GTV before we head off to work in the Porsche. I'm watching the GTV moving on the drive in my side mirror, and I'm finding myself mumbling to myself "What a wonderful car. What an wonderful wonderful car!"

I'm sitting in a Porsche Cayman S.......staring lovingly, longingly at what used to be my $3K Alfa 916 GTV.

Man what an under appreciated car.  People don't get it. We do!

Dad just got a 916 spider for 2400, 80,000ks, I'm just testing it out now - cracking little machine. Yes it's FWD and the gear shift isn't the best but for a third of the cost of an MX-5 you can't go wrong. And it came with a Bluetooth head  unit amongst the red leather, so Idrove home listening to jazz on YouTube last night wondering what exactly happened to my youth 😂

Yup mine had, about 74000 on the clock when i got it hey.

Has about 117000 on it now or something like that.

The first one I had was a bit of a loose dog tbh but the black one is tight as a drum. Everything lines up. No gaps by the headlights. Amazingly straight little car.

I think it's quite easy to get a good one, as they weren't exactly the target of your average hoonagan.

Try and find a mint unmolested Nissan 180sx, and that's another story. The Nissan being worth MUCH more oddly.

It's a funny old world.
