Hello all,
I've been looking at an Alfa 147 to teach my son how to drive a manual, plus some super sprints on the side for me. A friend of a friend is looking at selling his.
Five door Manual, red, tan leather interior.
180,000 km with full history (one owner since new)
Has hail damage to bonnet, top and tail and external condition you would expect from an inner city car that has not been garaged. Ie, the usual bumps and scratches
4 months rego
Tyres good
Front discs seem worn
Exhaust manifold was repaired once (do they all crack?)
No under engine tray and of course cam belts are due.
Some minor oil leaks.
Velour door panels tatty
Otherwise it drives well (Compared to a 156 I owned for 17 years from new) and all the electrics work!

He is looking for a no fuss sale and I'm wondering what I should offer?

All advice greatly appreciated!

Neil

Depends on if you wish to stay on good terms...

I've never had a 147, but judging by prices of cars on sale, I'd say offer him $3500 minus the cost of cambelt - so $2300.
Now:    2002 156 GTA
            1981 GTV
Before: 1999 156 V6 Q-auto
            2001 156 V6 (sadly cremated)

Thanks poohbah
There is a similar one on Carsales for $2500. Low mileage but appears to be out of rego.

$400 the car, plus 1/3 of the annual registration gross cost.

Maybe $500 the car if it has both keys and the secure code card.

I'd punt on a thermostat being due, balance shaft end plugs (gearbox off job, so at 180K you'd do the clutch, new slave and machine the flywheel). Exhaust bracket to block possibly cracked or missing, cats may be past their prime, shocks/top hats F&R by mileage, ditto upper and lower front wishbones. Gearstick bushes might be another item to renew.

I sold my 147 a while back and the best I could get was $4,500. The vehicle was in perfect condition with full service history, new tyres and nothing to spend.
So based on that I woudn't have thought that this Red one would not be worth a whole lot.
I'm with Citroenbender on this one.

Thanks fellas
I did the deal at $1500. Looks like I've paid too much, but I like that it has a fully documented history. Time will tell!

I'd say that's a fair price. Maybe a tad less for the cosmetic damage but meh.....$1500 for a working car is always good. Anything sub $3K and you have to start asking "well what are you expecting?"

I got $500 trade in for my 147 against an 07 Civic. There are MANY days when I think about ringing the dealer up and asking if I can buy it back for the same amount.

Haven't seen it come on the market.

Trading was stupid but that's another story.

All the best with the 147, I LOVED ours and yes that's the main car both my boys learned to drive in. GREAT pick for the job imho.
