Hi, can anyone advise how much I can expect to pay to replace a blown head gasket on a 116 GTV6? Thanks in advance.

GG105

Yes, and you are also likely to find that the heads will need a full service and the exhaust cam lobes may be pitted.

And "while we're there"...Three small words that have started many rebuilds and restos. Ask me how I know 8)

have a go at it yourself there is enough you tube and advice out there for this .

do a little research the worst outcome is a tow truck at the end
the only real issue that i can perceive is the the liners being pulled up at the same time
how bad is it

Thanks guys. The car is not currently running. It's for sale but parked with "head gasket" problems but god only knows what else is wrong. It's been sitting for 5 years so I'm guessing there's a whole lot more than head gasket issues.

carlo rossi

oh well now that is a different situation
yep sounds like a complete rebuild then, the water would have corroded the cylinder walls
send photos and how much

She's on Gumtree in Adelaide. He wants $9500.

rowan_bris

That car looks like it needs one or two other bits of work too....

I have brown coloured blobs starting to show up in my coolant reservoir; oil level & quality OK, no loss in performance and no white smoke!

That said, start planning for a gasket job.

I'm not worried about the body. It's the mechanicals that worry me.

rowan_bris

I would worry more about the body than the cost to do a couple of head gaskets, or replace the engine if that ends up being cheaper.

Yep, its the tin worm that costs the big bucks, not the nuts and bolts.
