Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy a new ecu, immobiliser, key set online. As my 156 has gotten the yellow key light error, and I haven't been able to get rid of it for quite a few months now. (I even sent the ecu off to the UK to get the immo system removed. They couldn't remove it....) I've been looking online, and I found an ecu, immo, key set. The ecu model number is 0261 206 948, and it has the black immo box (606 53 687). But my ecu model number is 0261 204 648, and I have the blue immo box already (code, 606 73 131). My 156 is a manual, and I'm not sure if the one online came off a manual car.

Do any of these factors matter? If I were to buy this set, would this fix my problem?

Kind regards,
Zac

What model 156 do you have? A Twinspark, JTS, 2.5 V6 or GTA 3.2 V6.

You need to get a matching set from the same engine type & gearbox type. So if yours is a Twinspark Manual, you must get a set from a Twinspark Manual. If yours is a 2.5 V6, you must get a set from a 2.5 V6.

Also changing the set may NOT solve the problem, you might just have a faulty Antenna Ring or cable. Around the ignition keylock is a plastic ring, this contains the antenna that reads the chip in the key, from this ring there is a cable going to the immobilizer box. If either the antenna ring or the joining cable is faulty then you will have the same issue. I suggest changing these out first before spending large on a new set.

Or you could just get an Alfa Romeo Diagnostic Specialist to come out and carry out a Diagnostic check on it to make sure which issue you have.  8)

Thank you for replying. I have a manual 2001 2.0L twinspark. I have already bought another ignition antenna ring from the wreckers, this didn't change anything.

The one listed online is from a UK model 156 2.0L twinspark (CF2 engine), but it doesn't list the year or gearbox type. I've asked them, but no response as of yet.

Must be from a manual the same as yours.

The selespeed has extra wiring inputs into the Engine Ecu and the two are not interchangeable.

So, could this fix my problem (ECU still has a different model number.)?

Can you suggest anything else to fix the yellow key light error?

I would recommend one with the same Model number, that way you can't go wrong.

Hi again!

So I've received my online purchase of an unlocked ECU which is supposed to be plug and play (Has been coded to exclude immobiliser system), but the car is still posting the yellow key light error and not starting! I am unable to do an emergency start with my electronic key (Obviously). The ECU I purchased is the same model as the one I had/have.

(Where I purchased my new/used ECU) (Ordered an unlocked version, option (c) plug and play)

I've contacted WorldECU, they've informed me to just turn the key 5-7 times for it to program automatically, but this hasn't worked...

Any help or further information would be greatly appreciated!

Kind Regards,
Zac  :)

Why on earth did you buy a new ECU without getting the car diagnosed first to see if the issue was with the ECU, immobilizer box or antenna connection issue???   ::)

The new ECU may be working perfectly but the issue may be with the immobilizer box.

The new ECU may be working perfectly but the issue may be with the immobilizer box.

The previous owner of the car bought another immobiliser box (Exact model), yet the problem persisted. I additionally bought another aerial antenna, this problem still persists. I've checked all the fuses & relays next to the battery, everything seems fine there.

I originally sent my ECU off to get the immobiliser system removed, but they were unable to do it. So I bought one with it already removed

The way I see it, I bought a "virginised" ECU which is the same model as the one previously installed in my car. So in theory, it should be ignoring the whole immobiliser system and it shouldn't be posting the yellow key code and it should start.

Am I mistaken here? Or does the new ECU I bought from the UK need the black immobiliser box instead of the blue one I have?

I feel like I'm doing something wrong that is very simple.

Kind regards,
Zac

No, that's NOT how it works, the immobilizer system has not been removed, but been "Virginised" allowing the immobilizer a once only chance to write a new "GO CODE" to the ECU.

Have replied to your PM.

May I suggest you don't do anything else till it's diagnosed correctly, and for gods sake, don't get the immobilizer boxes or ECUs mixed up.
