How big a job is it to remove the headliner from a 156?   Is it possible without removing front or rear screens?

The cloth on my headlining is fine (no sags) but I want to access the rear sunroof mechanism to cure a significant rattle.  I suspect the mechanism is busted, or detached.  The sunroof works fine but the blind is very loose laterally so probably has broken slides/tracks.

Is it simply a matter of removing all the lights, grab handles, visors and pinchweld?  I might also need to remove a seat or two to get it out of the cabin?

Here is the process according to eLearn -

7065C68  rear view mirror - r+r

- 7040E40  modular front courtesy light - r r

- 7040E16  rear courtesy light - r+r

- 7065C34  l/h or r/h sun blind (one) - r+r (left and right)

- 7065C30  interior l/h or r/h grab handle (one) - r+r (all).

- 7040H30  front pillar trim - r r (left and right)

- 7040H38  central pillar upper element - r r (left and right)

- 7050A20  one-piece rear seat cushion - r r

- 7050B10  l/h or r/h head restraint (one) of rear seat - r+r (left and right)

- 7050A19  rear seat squab - r r

- 7040H42  rear pillar trim - r r (left and right)

1. Remove the seals of the 4 door frames near the ceiling trim.

2. Undo the bolts for the front courtesy light housing.

3. Remove the retainers using the appropriate tool.

4. Separate the velcro buffers.

5. Remove the ceiling trim and remove from the passenger compartment via the right front door, after reclining the front seat backrest.

See, "Simples".   ???

Thanks Barry,

About what I figured, though the back seat removal to get at the rear pillar trims seems extreme. Hopefully I'll find some vintage coins when I pull the seat.
While I'm at it I may as well pull the front seats to give all the leather some TLC.

The bits that worry me:

- 7040H30  front pillar trim - r r (left and right)
- 7040H38  central pillar upper element - r r (left and right)

I assume these are clipped in place which means I'm 50% likely to break the plastic tabs

3. Remove the retainers using the appropriate tool.
Translates to 100% likely to break something without the appropriate tool.... ::)

I also assume these instructions are for a LHD car, so headliner will come out the LHS front door on mine.

I'm excited to see what these are:
4. Separate the velcro buffers.

:)
