Hi folks

I'm wanting to confirm, or know a ballpark figure, for a 'cambelt change' (service, parts, fitment) on a 2012 Giulietta QV.

I have been quoted a figure over $2K by a dealer (EDIT: see below), and wondering if that's about right.

Thanks in advance.  Happy for a PM or reply here.
Giulietta QV TCT . 1.75 TBi . Magnesio Grey - Black
GT . 3.2 V6 . Q2 . Kyalami Black - Red

Shiny asked me about Belt intervals in a PM, thought I should share my reply to him here as it will no doubt be of interest -

Ok, for 2012 models the book says every 100,000 km/5 years, or 4 years for harsh conditions. Trust me, the Australian environment is always HARSH conditions.

So normally I would recommend to clients every 4 years or 90,000 km to be safe.

Now here's the problem, the belt in the QV is quite good, and rarely ever fails, but the pump that the Giulietta QV uses is the same water pump as the 156/147 series, and because of this the our focus shifts to the pump itself.

These have been known to fail early, WAY before 90,000 kms and also before the 4 year mark as well. Just check with any Alfa service specialists and ask how many 156/147 water pumps have been leaking/on the verge of failing at the 3 year mark, and all of a sudden you start to get nervous.

So I recommend the 3 year/60,000 km change, not because of the belt, but the pump.

Just ask our fellow member Craig_m67 . . . . he'll tell you all about it.   ::)

It again highlights why they're called 'stealerships'.......
That 'great deal' you got when buying from them will be clawed back (with interest) when you hand the keys over at service/repair time.
Also the most expensive car wash, tyre shine and coffee you'll ever have.

lol, true!

Because of my own confusion, I rang the service department back to clarify.  I initially came away with the wrong interpretation, my bad!

So, 'belt and water pump', parts and labour, is about $1400.  However, combined with a major service (which I figure would be spark plugs, brake fluid, bla bla), it's a bit over $2.1K.

Any additional feedback from you guys appreciated.

Colin, you should PM Shiny the contact details for that club sponsor, if you haven't already.
