Hi All,

Im installing a gearbox oil temperature gauge in my Alfetta track car.

Interested to know the sensor locations people have used.

My first thought was the drain plug but on closer inspection it is very close to the rear discs and may give false readings.

I would prefer a spot further forward but dont fancy drilling a hole in my gearbox when I'm not intimately familiar with the inside of the casing.

Between the drain plug and the case would be perfect.  Given the aluminium gearcase is such a great conductor, any heat radiated from the disks will soak through the gearbox pretty quickly.  Plus when the car is moving forward the airflow will keep most convected heat downstream of the gearbox.  We used the below widgets for years when karting.  Very robust.  It was common to remove the spark plug from a kart engine 10 - 15 times over a race weekend.  The below NTC sensor is available in a ranges of id's.
