carb strut brace required?

My 79 Alfetta sedan currently  has rectangular Redline air filters and no strut brace nor left/right carb mounting plate.

How essential/preferable is it to have both carbs bound together for balance?

And, without the massive air cleaner canister and filter, do I really need the carb strut brace?
