fuel delivery to carbs

My '81 GTV has been sitting idle for about 6 weeks (too wet and cold), but sun came out today so thought i'd try and coax her back into life.

Only just bought a new battery (which I disconnect it whenever the car is not being used), so it cranks fine, and there is half a tank of fuel in it.

But car won't start and checking the fuel lines today, they are bone dry even after pumping the pedal vigourously for a while. In short - no fuel is getting to the carbs, and doesn't seem to be getting as far as the fuel pressure regulator either.

So I'm guessing the fuel pump is most likely to be the culprit? Or the regulator (or both)? And that I will need to bleed air out of fuel line?

I finally managed to get her going today.

As mentioned before, fuel lines were dry from the line going into the fuel pressure regulator all the way to the carbs. Attached some clear hose to the line and sucked fuel through til I knew it was getting into the carbs.

Still no start, so checked the plugs. Three of four plugs were totally cactus. Had a few old ones lying around from the last time I changed them that were in much better nick, and bingo she started no problem. Took her for a run and all working to order again. So I will get some new plugs tomorrow.

However, I really do need to get the carbs balanced and tuned so the fuel/air mix is spot on, which I suspect is the reason the plugs were in a bad way. Also sounds like there may be a vacuum leak from around the inlet manifold or rubber carby mounts.

But at least she now moves under her own steam again.
