Those lock rings can be a real nuisance and getting the lock tension just right is critical. I have had to pull a tank out to install a drain into it and at other times install a  lift pump to the original suction line and then come face to face with our friend, the lock ring. To get it sorted, I had to carefully re-tension each clamping position and lubricate the lock ring with rubber grease to make a smooth rotation.

None of this answers your question. Just sharing.

What may help if you get desperate is to make a 3D printed version of the lock ring. The rubber seal you can make out of rubber or cork sheet .

Good luck.

Hi MD,
Thank you for your response,
I have noticed on ebay the old holden and valiants had a similar lock ring and seal . I was interested to see if they fit , I am trying to get measurements to see if compatible.

IIRC I made a seal out of neoprene rubber back many years ago. It worked well. Neoprene is resistant to fuel.
