There has been an urban myth around Newcastle about an abandoned forgotten Montreal .
The legend goes like this, whilst travelling through Charlestown ( a suburb of Newcastle) a torana A9x pulled up along side him at the lights and as as any Newcastle lad knows... never let a chance go by or so the song goes (the Newcastle Song 1974 bob hudson)
any way the drag race begins and somewhere down the road not sure who was winning the alfa blows up the engine .
The owner works overseas alot tows it to his parents house parks it under small garden area and attempts to work on the problem
This is before internet so help was far and few .
roll on over 40 years and after many attempts to buy this car they would always say "no its our sons car"
So the other day i went to Autoitalia and spied a beautiful burnt orange Monty and forsale,  how much ?
$220,000 wow, i get talking to the owners and the mechanic and so on and in great enthusiasm i recite the story of the mythical monty
He says  really "we bought that last week " it was on gumtree .I cant believe it because myself and others have tried many times .
I have to say that Gumtree is not my first port of call looking for exotics.
so $20,000 they now have it or whats left of it

Hi Carlo.
Thank you for posting the photo I took 10 years ago. I have known about this car for for more than 40 years. I pulled up at the house 8 months ago the owner was about to leave in his Audi. I introduced myself and started to talk about the Montreal.
To cut a long story short.
I offered him 5k he shrugged his shoulders and said "I can get that for the wheels" I said thank you and left. I first saw this car in the 70's parked in Newcastle city. I worked in the city and saw it a few times when it was a new car. you do not forget seeing an exotic in Newcastle in 1970's.
I have been watching and photographing this car over the last few decades. My son in law (at the time also a forum member) saw the car 20+ years ago. I have taken many photos of this car over the decades and posted the photos on different Alfa forums. I went to the house recently and the car was gone. Thank you Carlo for the update on the car I did wonder what had happened to the car now I know. 10 years ago I spoke to a women at the house. I think it was his mother I asked questions about the car and asked if I could have a closer look she said yes. I saw the car in an as left condition it was a time capsule. I had seen the car  30 years earlier on the other side of the lake under covers but in the weather. I said "wouldn't you like the car out of the yard' she said "yes"  I left contact details and never heard back. I wanted to put that V8 into my gtv6 even if it had less power, I had a dream.
I first saw this car as new in the 70's then again by chance in the 80's laid up with tarps over it, in the late 90's it was found by my son in law on the other side of Lake Macquarie. for the next 25 years I watched the car fall apart as the elements took it's toll, each time I visited the car a new section had rusted and fallen off or was hanging by wires just like the tail light in the photo'

I gave myself as Sportiva a red card from this forum about a year ago I am only back because of this thread. I would really would like to know what happened to the Montreal that sat for decades in the front yard of a house in Quarry Rd Teralaba.
I first saw this car in the 1970's in Newcastle city. I again saw it under tarps in a suburb on the eastern side of lake Macquarie in the 1980's.
In the 90's my then son in law (gta105) found the car in Teralba a suburb on the western side of the lake. Only he and I knew the location of the car.
For 20 years I watched as the car rusted away. gta105 and I left contact details many times and never heard back. Finally I spoke directly with the man who owned the car I offered $5k and the reply was "I can get that for the wheels" I left that day a little angry because for 30 years I had watched the car rust away and the owner made no effort to preserve the car. then 2 months ago I went to the address and the car was gone.

I do not believe the car was sold on Gumtree there is no evidence to support it.

There are no posted photos of this car except my photos on different forums over the decades. I hope the car went to someone who can supply parts to Montreal owners who need the hard to obtain parts that only a car like this one can provide. The car was a time capsule, it just sat there for decades and did not move,

To the people or person who now own the mythical Montreal of legend please let us know what has happened to the car. I always wondered what the condition of the engine would be like. I have seen Nord head studs break at the base because of corrosion and always thought if I were to ever get a chance to pull the Mystic Monty's engine down what condition would the internals be in. Not the rods and pistons but the inside of the block.
Someone on this forum must know who bought the car.

How appropriate - a resurrection story for the Easter weekend.

If the new owner is on here, I'm with the other folk - please let us know what happens next.

And Carlo - you'll be surprised what turns up on Gumtree from time to time. I think it's a bit like this forum - it's becoming a platform for a very particular demographic...
Now:    2002 156 GTA
            1981 GTV
Before: 1999 156 V6 Q-auto
            2001 156 V6 (sadly cremated)

Carlo and I know each other well, I do not doubt what he wrote. I doubt what he was told. Only the new owner can verify that.
Lets hope we hear from them in the near future to Prove me wrong.
