Jim has your motor got a knock sensor? does it work? You may need to hook up a light or some other warning device if you cant here it

yes, it has a knock sensor that is connected to the ECU - will have to look into seeing if I can look at its output.

The marks in the top of the piston there, factory cut outs right? Or is the rev limiter disabled?

Salvage it, of course you can, there is nothing wrong with it. Iwas not sure so I asked Ben ; he said "It looks ok to me" so I guess thats decisive

Jim, its hard to tell from the top photo's...did the bore get damaged or is it a reflection in the photo? Whats you plan of attack for the repair / re-build?

no, the bore is ok, a hone will do.. I have most of the parts enroute, but March 1st looks like a bridge too far at this stage!
