To those members who were not at the Club meeting last night and not aware of what took place, there was a discussion during the meeting and then a unanimous vote that the Club will donate $10,000 to the bushfire appeal.

Thanks to everyone for their support

Just thought everyone would like to know what AROCA Vic will be doing with the donation.

As we have yet to hear of any of our own members being directly affected, we will be channeling our donation to the CAMS Bushfire Support Appeal that is going to assist CAMS members.

All contributions will be donated to CAMS members and the communities which have been affected
by the fires. Any leftover funds will be donated to the Red Cross towards the general public Victorian
Bushfire Appeal Fund.

We have spoken with CAMS this morning and they assure us that there will be no 'administration' costs involved and every cent will go directly where it is needed most.

Thanks again to all who supported this decision.  This is something that we as a community based car club should be extremely proud of.

I have attached the CAMS media release which has the details.

I applaud the decision by AROCA members donate to the bushfire appeal.
While I see that CAMS is setting up a fund to support Cams members that have been affected, I would envisage that most of the members who voted for the AROCA donation had the more general community appeal in mind at the time.
I think the case for donating to the broader community and not resticted to the motorsport fraternity carries more weight in all senses.
Those affected Cams members will also share in the broader funds raised anyway, and I think that Cams members will be well supported in many other ways as well through the affiliated car clubs.
We could always raise more funds or volunteer help for the Cams members, perhaps in more specific terms.
I do feel that often these days, car clubs are often percieved as in the 'hoon' category, and that helping the broader community could be a more positive action in a few ways.

Vin raises a good point in many ways.

Funds should be available to those impacted in the broader community without restruction.

I understood that the funds were being donated/committed to the Red Cross as per TV Relief Appeal on the Thurdsay night.

Most organisations and companies are using the resources of the Red Cross for donations etc & disaster relief as they are a specialist in this fiedl, just as CAMS is a specialist organisation for motor racing.

There we go.
