Rare Alfa 2600 Sprint for sale

After 13 years of owning, restoring and driving almost daily my beautiful maroon 2600 Sprint, I've regretfully decided to sell it. But I'm not sure what price to ask. Can anyone point me to recent 2600 sales? I don't expect to recoup all I've spent on the car since 1996. Here's some info on the car:

• Model: 2600 Sprint, RHD
• D.o.b.: 1964
• Body colour: maroon
• Interior: black leather upholstery, wooden dash
• Modifications: (1) the steering box was converted to rack and pinion before I acquired the car, making the steering much lighter than other 2600s -- experts admire the conversion; (2) the wheels are non-standard and, in my opinion, look much better than the originals, though I have the original hub caps, if a future owner wishes to revert to them; (3) central locking and passive arming immobiliser and alarm have been fitted; (4) four-speaker Sony stereo radio and cassette player fitted
• Restorations: too many to list but they include a complete engine rebuild in 1997, gearbox rebuild, triple Solex two-stage carb rebuild
• Known flaws:  few rust spots, minor oil leakage
• Insured value: $25,000 (agreed value)

I'm thinking of bringing the car to Bell's Hotel on Wednesday 11 March for Victorian AROCA members to see, if there's any interest. More jpgs available.

Lovely! A real link to the Alfas of the 50s. Now, as to the market value - I'm able to help you there. My top offer, based on what I believe to be real market value, is $500. I'll even drive to Melb to pick it up and save you the trouble! No?
OK, seriously, I have no real idea but it sounds like such a genuine example that it's got to be valued at least at its insured value. I'm sure it'll sell.

Sell a kidney instead, I'm sure you'll miss it less! They are such gorgeous cars. I could see myself driving to work in one of those, just have to get a brown leather briefcase. 

Sorry, but I'm not sure about the market value. But it is a lot rarer than the Bertone isn't it, so I would expect it to go for quite a bit more than the same condition Bertone. Good luck with the sale

Can't say I'm surprised at the price; they're getting scarce in any sort of condition. I remember a spider in Sydney, with wire wheels. I'm thinking about the kidney - you only need one, right?

I recall one selling around 2005/6 for up around the $40,000 mark, in White with (I think) dark red interior.

In late 2007 the place I was working at had a 'patinated' example that had been stored outdoors but drove superbly for $27k-ish.  It had faded paint and a couple of rust spots, was on original Borrani wires.  Regardless, if yours is in regular use with the tasteful updates you describe its market value may fall somewhere between the two!

Thanks for alerting me to the white 2600 currently for sale for $38K. I  remember being shown it by the then-owner in the mid-90s and was very impressed by how meticulously restored/preserved it was. (Secretly, though, I must admit I thought mine was the better-looker of the two, and its seats a fair bit more comfortable, even though it couldn't compete with the white one on the Concourse.) And, yes, I do drive mine daily - it's the only car I've owned for the last 13 years and it takes me to work every day as well as on those open-road touring excursions that its six cylinders and road-hugging steering make such a pleasure. I'm not really into museum pieces or "Sunday driving". If it's fun to drive, it's fun on any day and might as well turn heads on Tuesday or Thursday as on Sunday.

Daily driver certainly makes it an interesting proposition.  What's the mileage, just out of interest?

Is it an original colour?

Mileage is 20444. Yes, it's the original maroon colour (not as bright Ferrari-red as might seem from the jpg on this website - but send me your email address and I'll happily forward a bunch of other jpgs).

Incidentally, it was first registered in 1966, but I was told by local experts in the mid-90s that some of its features seemed a bit earlier, 1964-ish. You're welcome to research it: chassis no. IGM 2495 OM; reg. no. FE2600.  It should be on the national and international registers. I was a member of AROCA (Vic) for a fair number of years, then switched to the UK-based International Alfa 2000/2600 Club, because it was more specialised and helpful in sourcing parts.

Most 2600 owners keep their cars in mothballs, so no-one sees them, knows about them, or desires them. But whenever I park mine on a shopping strip I'm constantly pestered by passers-by who want to tell me - as if it hadn't already occurred to me - 'Hey, that's a really cool car! Beautiful! What model is it? A Jaguar?'
Which is why I haven't yet stuck a 'For Sale' sign in its rear window and parked it outside Jimmy Watsons on a Saturday.

you may get more through a shannons type auction, the 2600 is a pretty rare model - how many would have been imported to Oz? can't many.

I was hoping that your vehicle was still for sale, I have seen it on unique cars and I was hoping it would be on the forum. If it isn't to much trouble could you forward some further pictures of the vehicle as I have started looking around for another project. Call me mad  but I am actually interested in a 2600 I have always loved them. I won't waste your time any further at this stage as I have only just started looking and have a couple of other models in mind and have an impending overseas trip so it all depends on finances after that.

Well I too must be one of those slightly strange people who also really love 2600 sprints.  I just simply don't have the spare $$ to spend on such a car as it is all headed towards house rennos and then finishing off my other 105 Alfa projects.  But it would be nice.  I actually think the price is perfectly reasonable for such a rare model out here in Aus, especially given this one's nice condition.

Down here in Tassie from my recollection I know of 3 people who between them own 6 2600 sprints in varying condition from very good to complete resto projects.

The thing I like about them is outside of the Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Aston Martin GT class, the 2600 represents the best opportunity for someone to have this kind of car for reasonable money.  I know the Fiat 2300 coupe also fits the mould but they are even rarer.

Goodluck with the sale, I am sure there will be a buyer out there who recognises quality.

I too have fond memories of this vehicle.  About 6 times a year I would get a lift from my father's boss. He always had good cars such as Peugeot, Citroens, Mercedes and Alfas.  My favourite wa the 2600. Trips were between Cann River and Sale in the mid 60's.  The vehicle was a silver one.  We would travel in excess of 100mph (yes miles) slowing down only when other vehicles approached.  Never told the old man as he would have stopped me travelling with the bloke.
Would love one now and been looking but prices a bit high.
