hey guys, i have a 86 2.0 gtv, had a 75 TS mint cond but sold it which i sort of regret =(
the shape and the pleasure of driving the gtv makes it such a nice car but i find it a bit sluggish on the road, obviously doesnt have the power of the 75, any mods i can do to increase performance in acceleration without turbo's supercharges etc.. im currently on p'plates =( but yeah anything else that i can really increase the acceleration?
-thanks daniel

A good tune-up would probably do wonders. New oil, plugs, leads etc. Make sure the throttle cable and linkages are in good order, and opening all the way up when you put your foot down.

Otherwise, a set of mild cams and 'extractor' exhaust manifold, and possible entire exhaust system, though I'm not really sure how restrictive the factory setup actually is. Anything I can think of after that starts getting expensive (unless you have the know-how to undertake the work yourself.) I.e. - porting the cylinder head, larger valves etc. A better, (and possible cheaper) alternative would be to swap the old motor out for a TS, which essentially bolts right in.

hey if thats your GTV.. i saw it for salee and was looking at itt for awhille thinking on whether to call or not haha...
but yes its nice looking GTV but honestly the 2.0lt doesnt have much balls as it is ... cheapest way is a turbo although your not only one on your p's haha im in the same position and love alfa's ... but look for a 2.5 lt GTV6 enginee
orr boar your engine and get mild cams and larger fuel injectors and ecu.

yeah i have extractors with 2inch stainless exhaust through it, quite a nice note, re-built cams.. theres been a bit of work put into it, unfortunately its still not what i quite want it to be lol =(
yeah it was for sale a while ago, and btw im only 17 but i drive it everyday with my dad on L's lol but very soon getting p's, and compared to the 75 it really doesnt have much in it, to be tuned at its peak, i dont know how it should run? rich?
everything is prac rebuilt or new.. i doubt its got a lsd diff in it, but i also doubt that it would make a great impact on it if i were to change it..

im sure theres much more work then just putting a TS engine it, as you would have to change the computer and most things in it? or am i wrong?

Sure there's more to it than that, but it's still way less work than fitting a V6. I'll wait for someone more knowledgeable than me to chime in with the specifics, but I'd imagine you'd just use the ECU from the Alfa 75 that you sourced the engine from.

Regarding the diff, swapping it for something with a shorter ratio could certainly improve acceleration to an extent, at the expense of top speed.

i thought so that it was the corret gtv i was looking at, you should buy your self a fully adjustable ECU and place it in there and map it yourself to a prime condition .. and also remove to front seats and fit with 2 race seats

trust me you willl also see a diffrence doing this.

and msg me when you get your p's i only got mine last month haha

take care buddy and good luck.

Not inexpensively as far as I know.

You're only 17?  Isn't it fast enough as it is?  Man I would have killed for that car when I was 17.    Forget about straight line speed, Alfas aren't really built for drag racing.  Alfas are built to teach you how to change gears and go round corners.

aw ill most likely leave the interior the way it is (original) i actually like the seats in it, i dont know if i would really notice a difference if changed the front seats :p

lol fair enough ... the front seats together weight sumthing like 80 kilos so a whole person haha..thats only reason why i sugested it because ittle things like that make a diffrence in the end.

haha anyways good luck buddy.

Firs off, Sheldon's right. It's not about acceleration, there is so much more to it. I suggest you get a copy of Jim K's book and read it cover to cover before you do anything. There are a lot of "urban myths" about tuning, you can easily spend a lot of money for not much gain.

im 18 myself, so not that much older. i agree, the thought of more speed is always exciting, and i'm always on the lookout for something with more go, but realistically a 2L alfetta is more than quick enough.
ok, it's not gonna spin the wheels for 200m or peel your face off, but try taking the gtv on a few laps of a fast circuit like phillip island. or alternative try spinning the thing doing 150k like some of us idiots, and then tell me its not quick enough!  ;D

ill agree with you guys its not only about acceleration its about the way it handles and alot of other things at that also, but lets not get it wrong .. a 2lt alfetta is not exactly a beast or sum power plant.. but what it will do is do a very nice track time considering the way it handles but if you want a nicee acceleration lets face it the key is in the engine.. such as adjusting cams or changing them you can adjust such as retard or advance the cams. for more power at top end. exhaust will do it also by better flow... you can do a hell of a lot to increase power but it wont exactly be cheaps .. if i was you id save and then sell your gtv and upgrade to maybe a GTV6 if you enjoy the cars.

ciao.
