Vale Peter Wherrett. The original cross dressing Alfetta driver.(used to love that little pink number) The world would be a better place if there was more of them.

Bump.

Lasting memory of Peter Wherrett was in about 1975. Sandown 500. The ABC Torque 1.8 Alfetta Sedan. Great start and first couple of corners, but absolutly swamped by V8 Aussie muscle cars up the back straight . Then again probably all Alfetta Drivers have had that experience.

Hi Five everyone, this after all is a site about opinions! Sheldon I am not sure what your on but if that's what yanks your chain fair enough. Err we all know that we could turn the telly off but then what would be talk out under this thread, Err nothing?

I am not sure that your point below is about:

"Oh and by the way, the topic of this thread is "So What do you Reckon of Top Gear Australia?", not "This is What I think of Top Gear Australia, if you don't agree you must be mentally deranged".

Deranged? woo?

Gees guys and i started this thread to gauge the collective opinion of, and according to Clarkson "True petrol heads", us Alfisti.  The point being I knew that there would be a broad range of opinions from crap to ok.  And this is the whole point of the forum to allow for such broad views to be expressed.

I am not going to re-hash the comments since in truth I think the purpose of this thread based on series 1 has had been sufficiently commented on.  I agree with the comments re vale Peter Wherret, though doubt it had much to do with the thread. On that note, I had wondered what had happened to him (and now know from reading a number of articles in the papers) and also the Alfetta he raced ??  No idea on that one.

Anyway be it as it may, I guess all we can do in the meantime is enjoy UKTG and see what may occur from series 2. If it is crap, I doubt that there will be a 3rd series.  Many will undoubtedly applaud this.  Dave

Cheers David. Given that this stuff has been done to death, at least until the aussie version starts! and gvien your comment about Wherret and his racing career, heres a link to Wheels magazine with an article on him. Although you need to get well into it, basically he drove a number of bathurst races in Fords and Holdens and finally three bathursts in an Alfa.

The site also has a short film on one of his shows. Unfortunately I am old enough to remember his later shows and re-runs of his original shows. He was basically a one man car show and one of the best! great commentator and really new his cars and was topical as well.
