i've got the same engine in my alfetta, and that has seen 7000 on a couple of occasions. having said that, i won't be doing it again. it didn't complain (it was actually still pulling hard when i decided enough was enough and picked up another gear), and nothing broke, but in standard form there is absolutely no reason this needs to be done.

i'm fairly certain other members have got many more revs out of them, but i will leave them to incriminate themselves.

Also it depends how long you want the engine to last.

Actually Marco I would say "bloody hard", that's the essence of this engine. The problem with these older cars is they don't exactly have the more modern fail safes.

But as far as I'm concerned the 6-8 band is there to be used. Just make sure that it's regularly serviced and you use the best oils and high octane fuel to give the old girl the best protection. Hell if we're going to tool around between 4-6 grand, wheres the fun? These engines are virtually bullet proof! take it out and give it a thrash.

Ah yeah but like all engines even a 1750 engine, and especially if in standard form and say a little not new has its limits.  Now if we are talking of a fully rebuilt and worked motor, well thats another story but yep definitely bloody hard !! albeit perhaps not as much as say a Honda 600 which revved out to 13,000 rpm !!  ;D  Dave
