Rear compartment light is possessed!

The other night on my 2002 156 I noticed the rear compartment light would not go on when any of the doors were opened. Thinking the kids must have played with it I clicked the side of it to turn it back on...still nothing. So I closed the doors and waited for the front compartment lights to go off, which they happily did with that smooth dimming motion. However, the rear compartment light then proceeded to turn on! Open the rear door and it went out.

Can anyone explain to me how to get it to revert to normal behaviour i.e. turn on when you open one of the doors, just like the front compartment lights?

alfa ELECTRICS had sameprob witnh 2000 mdl 156 i took the back lights out i only resently put them back 1 year laterand everything is normal again
