Hi Guys

Has anyone camped at Bathurst for the race weekend before. Have always wanted to go so this year the camping spot is booked and we are definatly going.

Any helpful hints would be appreciated. I know for a start that last year they limited alcohol to one slab per person per day. So that means Kerry and I can only rock up with 8 slabs between us for the 4 days so I may have to go up early and bury some supplies ;-)

Any hints welcome, should be 4 days of fun in the bush with loud cars :-)

Catch ya

Shane

Hi Shane, there are 4 options for camping at Bathurst I understand and in my opinion (although I have always managed to find a bed somewhere) my preference would be:
1) In the patroled camping ground in front of the pits and close to the main entrance. for = close to the action, safe easy to go to and from. Against = can be noisy at night, shortage of toilets and showers and could be at risk from theives during the day.
2) The Mobile home Park. It's the old drive-in theatre area, but I guess you need at least a campervan.
3) The roadside leading up to the track. I understand the Council allow camping in the adjacent paddocks. No toilet facilities and security risky once again.
4) On the Mountain. I guess you have heard all the ugly stories, and my friends who have braved it for the last 10 years say the stories are not exagerated. Camping up the top of the mountain is definately not for ladies (that you care about) and every night there is drama! Even the Police stay locked in their compound area and don't come out. They say they will attend to injuries only if the victim is bought to them.........hence the Alcohol restrictions

Sounds like it could be an experience :-)

We are staying on the side of the mountain rather than the top so hopefully a bit quieter - see how we go :-)
