An updated approved Production Tyre list applicable to both Group N and Group S has been published - most competitors are using the A032 Yokohama which has now been superceded by the A048.  I am also investigating some alternatives and will keep you posted.

http://www.cams.com.au/bulletins/B06-014%20Historic%20Group%20N%20-%20Approved%20Tyre%20List.pdf

Tyres must be from the production car list which I have just posted in the group s news section and must be 60% profile.  Most Alfa competitors are running the Yoky A032 which has just been superceded by the A048 which has been just added to the production car list.  The AO48 is the control tyre for a number of classes (eg Aus Prodn Car Champ) and is short supply ATM but should free up by the time we are ready.  The size is 195 60 14.  The supplier has said that based on testing the A048 is faster than the AO32.  You can use other tyres if you want as long as they are from the list.  A048's are about $230 each.

Note the Bridgstone RE 55 and the Dunlop D01 have now been added .  Some reports have the RE55 as being comperable to the Yoky A048.

Dunlops from Stuckeys (Russell or Michael) 03 9386-5331

Now you guys are just skirting around the problem. You know I like clean a Alfa.
2500 litre rainwater tank from Bunnings $360.00, pump tank stand and fittings to down pipe $330.00, wash your cars when ever you like Priceless!!
On a more important matter for you racers. As you know I am building a 105 2000 Group S car and as I have my tax return I thought I would buy some shiny new wheels. I have screwed down a good deal on Performance Superlites 14 x 6", 4/108 stud patern and 26 P off-set. Is this off-set correct for our cars? or don't I have a choice. On the issue of tyres, I have downloaded the CAMS list and there is toooooo many to choose from. What is your recommendation for tyres?

Hi Gary,

I have the superlites on the Alfetta but not sure of the offset for the 105.

It is true you can use 15's on the 105 however bigger OD means slightly taller gearing if you are running a 4.3 diff or taller stay with the 14's.  As for tyres you should probably stay with either the Bridgestone RE55 (Trackside Tyres - Craig 9761 5557) Yokohama AO48 (Traction Tyres 9764 2811) or Dunlop D01 (Stuckeys 9386-5331) in a 195 14 60.  I have used the Bridgestones and the Yokies and both were excellent.  I have used the D01's on other cars but not in this size and they are pretty good too.  Price will be the factor.  Bridgies and Yokies are about $950 to $1050 a set.

Thanks Scott.
F.Y.I. I have purchased the Performance Superlites 14x6 with their maximum offset P12, which is 14mm outboard from normal. On my 105 2000 they appear to fit nicely inside the guards.
Michael from Stuckeys was very helpful, but my tyre of choice the Dunlop DO1J's are no longer available in 195/60-14.
Apparently the new Dunlop replacement is a directional tyre DZ03 which at present has not been approved for our use?
I still have a lot of work to do before wheels are turning, so I may hold off on tyres a little longer. What is your feeling on directional tyres?

Scott Farquharson

Yes, wait until the car is ready and see if the DZ03 are out.  As for directional tyres, as it is for all tyres, it is a matter of trial and error.  Give them a run and lets see how they go.  It is likely that they will be faster than the D01 they replace, so not much to lose.

There was a new Tyre List due for release by CAMS on 1 July 2007, but it has been delayed.  The old list is still current for the time being.  Watch this space.....

You are a wiz Phil.
How you keep abreast of all these CAMS regs is beyond me. So.......I take it the all previous tyre lists are now superseded by this new tyre list?

Fast Eddie

Gary,
i had the new Dunlop DZ03's fitted to the red Alfetta and although i didnt get much time on them, i was impressed as i was a D01J fan before then.

Now they are listed, all you need is lotsa cash in order to test em all out for us

Good luck

Thanks Ed, it could be a while before a) I get the car finished and b) before I am good enough to test my skills let alone the tyres. Maybe I will need you to fly over and do my testing?

Does anyone know whether the Dunlop D93J is still allowed to be used in GroupS? (Scott, Phil?) I noticed that they were on the approved list, but now are not. Would that make them ineligible?  In any case, If anyone has used them before, how do they rate? Thanks!

They are probably not on there because they have been discontinued so Stuckey would not have submitted them again.  I don't think you will have any problem running them if you still have a set or 2.

I believe the Dunlop D93J is the famed Dunlop "wets." As such there are no longer allowed in Group S as they are too much of an advantage in wet conditions and in the interests of containing costs (i.e competitors requiring drys and wets) they have been banned.

I'm not sure whether competitors who still have them will be allowed to "use them up."
