Greetings all,

Here is the club information on the Festival Of Italian Motorsport - the follow up to last year's Italian Challenge at Queensland Raceway. Following on from last year's Italian Challenge and last month's Alfa Romeo East Coast Challenge, we are extremely excited about this second major event for the year. Get the tools out team and fettle those chariots. It's track time.

Cheers,

Brent

Following the resounding success of last year's Italian Challenge at Queensland Raceway, the Italian car clubs of Queensland have made the decision to go even bigger and better in 2009 with the Festival of Italian Motorsport.

The Festival will take place on the weekend of October 2-4 at Queensland Raceways Ipswich circuit and incorporate both race and regularity categories and a show'n'shine. We also aim to have trade displays by Italian manufactures and importers to enhance the Italian flavour of the weekend.

Friday, October 2 will be a full practise day, with further practise, qualifying and one race on the Saturday, October 3 and three races on the Sunday, October 4. At this stage, heats in the race category will be eight laps, run on the Queensland Raceways' Clubman layout. The regularity category will also utilise the Clubman layout, with each heat comprising of a warm up lap, five timed laps and a cool down lap.

The event will be run as part of the final round of the 2009 Queensland Racing Drivers Championship (QRDC). It will be governed by AASA rules and regulations, with race drivers needing to hold a AASA National Licence and regularity competitors requiring a AASA Clubman licence. See the Queensland Raceways new website (www.qldraceways.com.au) for licence forms and vehicle safety requirements.

Entry fees for the weekend's racing will set you back $199 for an early bird fee (due in no later than Friday, September 25). Otherwise the cost is $299 and entry forms must be received by no later than Friday, October 2. Entry forms for the Festival of Italian Motorsport can be downloaded from www.qldraceways.com.au under the Queensland Racing Drivers Championship section. Click on the date "Oct 3 & 4". A separate regularity form is also available in this section of the website. The regularity cost is a very affordable $130 for the weekend. The Friday practise session is charged at $120 for the day or $80 for a half day.

Vehicle safety requirements are also outlined on the QR website. Racing cars need a minimum half cage, race seat, harness, safety cut out switch and fire extinguisher. There are also guidelines for tow points, vehicle markings and a few other fine points.

Regularity vehicles only require the fire extinguisher but must be in roadworthy condition. Check the website for full details to avoid any scrutineering anxiety on race day. Guidelines to race and regularity apparel are also there for your information. Race competitors will require an approved race suit, helmet, balaclava, gloves, socks and boots, while regularity entrants need an approved helmet, ankle to wrist cotton clothing and fully enclosed shoes. Check the website or contact your club's competition secretary to make sure you are suitably attired. Helmets are available for hire from Queensland Raceways on the day.

The show 'n' shine will take place from 10am on Sunday, October 4 in the car park area adjacent to the race tower at QR. Entrants will have to pay $10 per person entry at the gate, but there is no additional charge to display your vehicle and be in the running for a trophy. Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third placed cars, with separate silverware for bikes.

An update on details will be issued next month, so please keep an eye on your club magazine and/or website for further information. We look forward to seeing you either as a participant or a spectator at what could well be the largest gathering of Italian vehicles seen in our fine state – the Festival of Italian Motorsport.

Hi team,

The specific entry form for the Festival Of Italian Motorsport is still not up on the Qld Raceways website. If you would like to lodge your entry (and I would encourage you to do so sooner rather than later) just download the QRDC Oct 3/4 entry form and will filling it out, clearly mark it "Festival Of Italian Motorsport". Once filled out, fax it back to QR with your credit card details.

This doesn't help regularity entrants. We are attempting to have QR post the regularity form on their site ASAP.

When you enter for either category, please email Ken Percival, Bob Whitehouse and me to let us know. We need to keep a list of entrants so KP and Bob can plan the day and I can start planning local newspaper publicity.

Also don't forget the TopGear round on September 12 and 13 at Lakeside. I for one am going to give the Guilietta another strap around the Lake and can't wait! Check out this week's Auto Action for a good historic account of Lakeside.

Thanks all. See you at the track,

Brent

Hi there,

Here is a link to the Festival of Italian Motorsport entry form on the QR website. It should come up as a pdf on your computer as soon as you click on it.

If you intend to participate in either the race or regularity categories, please fill out a form and send it back to Qld Raceways with your remittance as soon as possible. It is only four weeks until the big weekend!

As you will see, you save $100 by getting your race entry in early. The regularity price is only down as an early bird option of $120. That is amazing value for a weekend of track action.

Hit the spanners my friends, it's nearly time to boogie,

Crew, you have five working days to make the early bird cut off for the Festival. Save yourselves $100 and get those entries in.

Cheers,
