hi guy's
Last time I was in Tassie I was given around 20 L of this Motul gear oil,  just wondering if anyone has used it and if it would be at all suitable for 105 gearbox's or diff's, I'm assuming it won't be any good but thought I'd ask the question anyway as I'm sick of looking at the stuff on my garage shelf

Motul is a good brand, why are you skeptical? I'm sure you know about SAE grades and I think its grade matches the requirement for the Alfa gearbox. GL4/GL5 refers to its EP properties (which in turn relates to sulphur content - or used to). One of GL4/5 is intended for plain gears and the other LSD diffs. I forget which. Last time I researched this (maybe 10 years ago) the two were mutually exclusive, but now I see specs like the Motul one which intimates dual compatibility. I'm presuming that they now have a way to achieve extreme pressure properties without sulphur which can damage the clutch packs of LSD's.

I'd be tempted to give it a go and see what you think.

My suggestion is litle different. For my style of shifting that oil grade is too heavy on the synchros especially from cold. For a differential oil it will be ok if it is an open diff. The brand of oil is fine.
