I recently signed up and thought I'd do the sociable thing and say "Hello!"

I'm not new to Alfa's or Alfa forums and I reccognise a few names here from places like GTV6.com and the AlfaBB. I do admit to being slow out of the traps in joining an Australian forum tho. For some reason it didn't occur to me to search for an Ozzy forum  :-[.

Anyways, real name is Howard, but most people know me as 'Duck' (from the movie 'Howard the Duck'. Nick names, just like reputations, easy to get, hard to get rid of) but I left the 'c' out 'cause it looks emensly cool :P.

A Fitter and Machinist by trade, I work at ONESTEEL Whyalla (South Oz) Steel works, we use to be 'BHP Long Products Devision' many years ago (before me).

I love cars that achieve. Cars that go stop and handle well for the dollars spent. Real world performance (driven regularly/daily on the road). Speed and drivablity. Handling and (to a degree) comfort. Fun and reliability.
Most people will view these as complete contradictions, but good design and execution can achieve much. I prefer to use my (and others) head(s) when it comes to modifications. I tend not to think that 1 manufacture is the be all and end all.

Also, I can be a sarcastic prick (hey, I grew up in the '90s ;)) and I have a bad tendancy to say it how I see it. So I'll probaly hurt someones feelings along the way  ::).
I don't think that Alfa Romeo got it all right either. Small things like oil leeks will piss me off, not because of the mess, but because I own cars older and less messy.
I call bad design "Bad design" regardless of who's name is attached to it  ;). Like I said, I'll call it as I see it and that tends to be based on experiance with several Japanese performance orientated cars and, to a lesser degree, experiance from heavy industry.
Having said that, I love innovation and adaptation. That 'out of the box' type of thinking that occurs so rarely. I find that sought of thing inspirational.
I'm hands on and love to come up with my own solutions, not only for the sake of money but for that sence of achievement that you get, that simply can't be bought.

And welcome to this forum!  You didn't mention what Alfas you have? (assume it must be a GTV6 or two!)

Welcome Duk. Personally I like oil leeks...especially lightly sautéed with virgin olive oil. But yes you're right I don't think anyone like oil leaks...well except oil companies  ;D

PS Good old Onesteel...I was a big buyer of their products in Vic and last big customer of BHP's tinplate in NSW.

Yes welcome to this Forum mate. I have only been here a little while myself and gradually getting acclimatised to personalities. One day you should tell me why you decided to migrate from Jap to Italian?
I hope you will enjoy this site as obviously many do.

Actually it's been Italian-Italian-Italian-Japanese-Japanese-Japanese-Italian so far  8). And the return was a bit of a whimsicle purchase of 1 of those child hood fantacies.
I saw a charcoal grey 75 3ltr when they were new and the owner told me and my old man how fast it was and the rest is history. Besides, I loved my old 1980 Giulietta (the 2nd Italian, the 1st and 3rd FIATs) I just wanted some turbo performance and a little less 'character' (read: Italian electrics  ::)).
I've learnt some stuff, aquired some useful tools and have access to more useful tools, so I figured I'd own a another Alfa and see where it takes me. Tho half of the challenge is to modify and maintain without simply emptying cash into it.
