Modified brakes

Have started to modify brakes on front of my 33 series one. Will be running 15 inch wheels to clear new calipers.

My problem is: the centre of the new wheels are thinner than the old ones, so the bolts that hold the wheel on bottom out before they tighten wheel to hub.

Has anyone ever converted one of these to run wheel studs and nuts instead of the bolts?

Thanks in advance

Wouldn't a set of wheel spacers fix the problem???

Or get a secondhand set of shorter bolts....  I assume the ones he has have a section without thread below the tapered part, pretty sure some other alfas had shorter bolts with thread all the way to the taper...

wheels only just fit under guards, will have to check this but spacers definitely an option.

3 of us running suds and sprints in Melbourne certainly swapped ours to studs n nuts.  Bruno / Maranello can supply.  It made for quicker wheel changes which was one of the main reasons as we often ran road wheels / tyres to and from the event and then swapped to a set of alloys and R specs..  you also get a lot of conneciton to the hub arguably making a more secure fit.

Yeah this was my other reason, those bolts are a pain in the arse, especially if your trying too change the wheels quickly.

Might give bruno a call tomrrow

Cheers Ed

As Ed said, Bruno fitted studs to my Sud.  Highly recommended, makes wheel changing *much* simpler.

What calipers have you fitted?  Also fitting bigger disks?

using simple but effective combination that another 33 owner over here told me about.
VN-VP V8 commodore calipers, bolt straight up no mads
V6 magna front rotors redrilled to 4x98, had them slotted too so they look cool
calipers including pads brand new were $280.00 pair, rotors about $40.00 each brand new
Only single pot calipers but offers about double pad surface area and vented discs and cheap as sh*t

it's a matter of playing around with bolt lengths.

also, fyi, i'm not a fan of the mags, but it's in mandurah!

Hi Joey, Yeah I saw that, very sexy mags indeed,it would want to be in really good nick for that price over here.Ive decided to stick with the 33 for now. every sud and sprint ive looked at has speed holes all over them.  ;D

have fitted them to my red 33. Still waiting on the studs  to arrive. (Sourced locally in midland)

Have had a change of mind though. that one is not licensed and the body is a bit dodgy.

Have managed to pick one up licensed and in pretty good nick for $500.00

Should pick it up tonight. then will have to swap the 16v into it once i get the room.

did you speak to simon about those seats?

sorry didn't see this. simon has sold the seats but you didn't miss out. we're about the same size and my shoulders didn't come close to fitting them.

any other updates? you have me thinking about the brake upgrade.

ran in the one-day and did reasonable considering the cars entered. my suspension still needs a bit of tweaking. the event did however, crystalise on thing for me - i have done brake and suspension work but have done nothing to the engine to boost power. i have to do that and an sc14 is where i'm heading. hopefully in the first six months of 2010. this means that, finances allowing, i'll need an n/a car to compete in when the mood takes me. i'll probably use the n/a car for the midvale events and the sprint for the faster and more fun stuff.
