For anyone that wants to put a toe in the water ( gravel rally ) This appeared on Vicrally egroup today.

Whilst the George Woods Novice Trial and it's organising team is having a break, a different team from the Peugeot Car Club of Victoria is running the Lion Introductory Trial on the 20th of February this year.
This will be a low key event aimed at novice (grades E and F) competitors although grade C and D navigators can enter with grade F drivers, but won't be eligible for awards.
The event is planned to start in Rawson and finish in Noojee, this will make it a little bit more of an adventure than the previous events based on a central point and crews will be on their own service wise for the duration of the event although service crews can access the route after the field has passed though, in order to render assistance.
It is planned that the event will cater to beginners rather than being a season opener for all comers.
Navigation will be straightforward, no fancy plotting, just plain old grid references, on the excellent Recreational Survey maps.
Regs and entry forms will be available at www.vicrally.com.au shortly or email me direct.
As always we are looking for all kinds of officials, please email me to offer your assistance.

Excellent. Cheers Greg. Just got home from holiday, tomorrow's project is to finish the lighting. I also have a terratrip sitting next to me waiting to go in.

Yes, a standard road car would be ok, just fit some s/h rally tyres and maybe some driving lights. You only need a l2ns licence which is just a matter of paying money to CAMS. No more that $40 i think. A 90 would be a whole lot of fun to compete in. Happy to help in any way i can, as i cannot drive it. I am graded too high :(

First hurdle cleared with flying colours. As i have just found out, they provide far more lighting than i have driving ability.

Mat, do you think it might have been more advantagous to have put the driving lights not in front of your high beam lights?

Just a thought.

In theory yes, however in this case i'm not worried. I couldn't actually tell the difference between low beam and high beam before, so it's no loss. I figured it would be easier (and much lighter) to simply use the bumper mounts, rather than trying to reinforce an entire bumper.

For the GTV6 i bought 2 Hella 51/4" h1 inserts from an auto elec and a set of h1 zenon globes of ebay for $70 inc postage. Removed the glass from the carello inserts, and with a 4" angle grinder cut the reflector about 25 mm from the front , all the way round. lined up the Hella insert with the Carello lugs and sikaflexed the 2 bits together. Bingo, high quality zenon lights that mount into the original mounts. can find pics of the conversion if you want. Nearly dont need driving lights.

If you have pics available that would be grouse. If it's a hassle, i'd settle for a link to a similar set of globes on ebay  :)

The car already has 5 1/4" lights in it, so they should basically go straight in right?

Update.

This time with dad's help, made up a new spotlight bar. Much sturdier, and also has the lights sit next to the high beams, not right on front. Being sand blasted tomorrow, so i will paint it then chuck some pictures up in the next day or two.

Having a bit of a look on ebay, it seems i can get the HID conversion gear for $48 posted. (h1, 6000k, 35W). After reading your two cents, i reckon i might get a kit to chuck into the high beams, now that they will be usable again.

I also now have a set of 15" wheels at the ready. Any chance i could come up to your place either monday, tue or wed night to collect some tires Greg? Also, how much do i owe you for them?

Bought a set of suitable mudflaps just before, will also have a bit of a sticky at your Alfetta to see how they are fitted if that is alright.

Going to take the fire extinguisher out of the 75 after lunch, and mount that into the Alfetta. Giving me two 1kg extinguishers, which i believe should meet the regulations.

Unfortunately i don't think i will be mounting the terratrip- the only real factor being cost. Pretty hard for me to justify an extra $250ish (im guessing, havn't found an exact price for all the bits i need), to run in this event.

Havn't actually sent the entry off yet. Going up to Winton all of next weekend, car's gonna get a hiding. Assuming it makes it back in one piece, i will send the entry forms off first thing Monday morning.

All things being considered, i think it's all coming together nicely  :)

Sounds good to me!

I will give you a ring tomorrow during the day, i've got a day off tomorrow so that would be better for me if it works for you. Cheers.

Sorry to say that the Lion Trial has been cancelled. Shame cause i was looking forward to it. Hope you aren't too disapointed Mat, sorry you wasted your time coming out last night to pick up those tyres. There is another Intro Trial in Ballarat on 7th March. Part of the challange of clubs. 2 days of motorsport. motorkhana on saturday, trial on saturday night and an autocross on sunday.

i will probably enter all three, any other takers to form an Alfa team and bag some trophies?

this appeared on Vic_rally today;

Unfortunately the Lion Introductory Trial has had to be cancelled due to the DSE not being in the position to grant an organising permit.
Seems we picked a route riddled with problems (for example it is no longer possible for an organised group to drive the bitumen road from Loch Valley to Noojee at night, due to residents complaints) and with the persistent communication difficulties we have been experiencing since making contact with DSE in November (in part due to the pressure DSE is under at the moment, Black Saturday hasn't helped in this regard) it is impossible for them to be able to come up with satisfactory solutions at the moment.
My apologies to all who were looking forward to participating, there are few enough calendared events as it is.

All is not lost, the Millard Memorial and the Challenge of Clubs (this containing an introductory sub event) are set to run 1 and 2 weeks after our event.
See the SEAC or Nissan Car Club websites, Supp Regs for these events should be out soon.
