Good Evening All,

was at a wreckers today and found 2 excellent condition 2.5lt motors curious to know if installation into the 2lt GTV is a possibility? they are selling just over 2k each, would any modifications be required with existing parts , ?? Has anyone done this before from here

Thankyou in participation

i would not pay that much for a 2.5ltr you can buy a whole car for less plus i would not believe a bwrecker that an engine is in good nick either but the other answer is yes you can put a 2.5 in but i would go for the 3ltr

Hi mate I also reckon the way to go is to find a complete car with an engine you can hear running, test and possibly drive. Buy the lot and part out, scrap or give away the rest. Sedans usually are the donors for these kind of conversions (poor things and just because they have two extra doors and a higher roofline). Also if you are going to go to that kind of trouble, work/effort and expense go for the biggest capacity you can. Otherwise is it worth it for 500cc?

Can you find me GTV6's under 2 grand.I will buy 5 ;D

Drewster have you considered the TwinSpark conversion. There are huge hp Supercharger kits and turbo kits available for the Twinspark.

The extra HP and torque of the 3 litre VS the 2.5 makes it much more desirable package. The 2.5 makes a nice improvment in performance over the 2. However the 3 litre makes a quantum leap over the 2.

Now if we are talking modifications and power to weight handling characteristcis, thats a whole new ball game. For general use, go the 3.

alfa 90s go for pretty cheap in adealide if you can find one. even under $1000 if your lucky. Dont go to you pull it the motors are thrashed and people have taken parts of the engines.

if you buy a complete 90 or even a 75 u have everything there you need engine and drive line and all the other little bits.

its not that simple to drop a 6 into a 4, and far from inexpensive unless you do most of the work yourself- move engine mounts, fuel pumps, tailshaft, wiring, engineers report, etc., GTV6 bonnet, engineer might make you upgrade the brakes so need at least the brembos and  redrill rotors.. than you will think about a full drive line/5stud conversion  ::)

personally i wouldnt do it unless my GTV4 is heavily modified or in pristine condition - reason being that an average plastic bumper GTV4 is worth about 2.5-3K, and an average GTV6 can be had from $5k up.. just my 2 cents worth..  ???

Nothing at all wrong with what you have said, but here's the thing (and it's more about a personality than the car). If you tidy up a 2 litre, it will be a nice car, no question.

If on the other hand, you want to mix it with some of the more contempoary sports cars on the road, you need the 3 litres and all that goes with it. That's a factor of how much the average peice of sheit has improved over time with competition.

Really depends on how much humble pie you can eat.. ;)

well the OP hasnt really given a reason for a transplant, so a 2.5 maybe enough for him. I'd still rather have a GTV6 as a base with everything in place before I stick a Potenziata 3.0 in.. If there's nothing wrong with the existing 2.5 I probably wouldnt bother with a base 3.0 unless a few mods are going in along the way...  ;D

Storm_X

i wouldnt even bother with anengineers report my self . the police wouldnt know know the difference i reckon.

just buy a cheap 2.5 alfa 90 or 75 and swap over everything into the gtv. so that gives you motor drive line 5studs decent brakes. it wont be easy and a bit of mods are needed but eveything is thereif you buy a donor v6 alfa.

my self im building a 2.0 turbo motor.

Ok well then

There is alot of feedback there, yes I have even thought about investing in a complete GTV6 but there is as with most of us love in my garage, If I have to make to many modifications which i am actually looking at doing most work myself i may just go with the idea of some conversion work, ,I have a strong 2lt motor, well last time i drove it which is now 18months, but hopefully will once again be about now a month till turn over date ... Im just hoping once i install new water pump hoses and belts all is ok still.. very nervous.. hence Why i may go down the road of a newbie under the hood

Thank you so much as always
