Good Morning All,

Hopefully this topic wont end like my last one lol.. OK The girl, GTV 2lt so close to being back on road, BUT....... when i turn headlights on at first dash lights come on as do tail lights etc of course, but then the tail lights and dash lights sometimes go out sometimes they come back but not all ways lol... is the wiring for this easy to track or has anyone had similar probs before?? spoken to auto elecs but at $80 phour im reluctant to just say please go find... also have only had the car turned on for 15 or so minutes at time and the fans arent kicking in on radiator, i think i need that checked to, not sure on temp they kick in...

Thankyou everyone in advance again... and with out all your help and advice over last cpl months  i would still be months away from driving her, but at moment hopefully its only days ...so thank you all

Cheers Drew :)

Drew,

Need to look at a book to confirm, but if all the lights go on and off together then it is probably associated with the column switch as this feeds all these lights. If they go on and off individually then it is more likely either the feed or the earth for each light that is giving you trouble. A 12V trouble lamp will be your friend for seeing where you do have power.

For the radiator fans, (I assume you have two side by side), to check that the fans work you can bypass the thermo switch to force the fans to cut in.
The thermo switch is located at the bottom of the rear of the passenger side of the radiator. It should have (I think) a purple wire and a black wire connected. Just unplug them and join them together.
Now if you turn on the ignition (no need to start the car) one of the fans should start up. The second fan runs depending on whether the air-con is switched on or not.
If it does start then either the thermo switch is faulty or the car has just not gotten hot enough yet.
On my GTV the fans don't cut in till the temp gauge is around the 100 degree mark.
If the fan / fan's dont start then you have bigger electrical problems.

Alan.

Hi Allan,

Cheers for that, yer have had a look at point on wheel console yup seems to be a lil loose and flicks when played with , in regards to fans yer i do have twini and i think problem is havent got hot enough yet, but will have a play with wires like you sugested much prefer that than another suggestion i had was to remove the thermo from inside radiator, considering have just fitted new hoses and coolant etc and not keen on emptying and buggering around,

Cheers  Mate
