156 Gearbox Noise

Hi All,

My 2002 156 selespeed is making a strange clunking noise when changing from 3rd to 4th gear, all other gears are working fine. One mechanics opinion is the 'O ring'?? in the gearbox needs replacing at $1600!!, however He also said it was unusual for it to occur on a car having only done 76k km's.

Another mechanic has suggested it could be diagnostic/calibration issue??

Has anyone had this issue or got any advice as to what this could be and if so what dollars are to be expected?
