Hi All,

I urgently require a colour code for my Alfetta GT 1976.  It is metallic silva, has been resprayed and the colour code can no longer be found on the car.

The car is being touched up prior to 100yrs of Alfa and my painter is all stressed out due to there being so many Alfa silvers to choose from!
Can anyone help with:

1.  Are there several ocations one can find the colour code other than on the (hatch?).
2.  Can anyone tell me what colours a 76 GT had the otpion to be painted in?
3.  Does anyone know where the owner of the car is now?  The fellow who owned it at the time of the spray was Rene Domaille according to the receipt for painting back in 1995.  I do not beleive it has been painted since then, but it did recieve from what I can tell, a full repsray.  I think the car resided somewhere near swan hill in country Vic.  Anyway, this may help find out the colour, and whether it was painted the standard colour.

So the challenge is, I really need this info tommorow :-).  Let's see what can be tunred up....even if someone can narrow it down to the colours that were on that vintage of Alfetta GT that would be a great help.

Thanks John,

I've gone through the two sites and have a list of possibilities.  I would now like to compare with someone who has a silver alfetta GT.  I know there there are a couple in Vic so i am hoping one of those guys will read this and check their code for me...fingers crossed.

Here's the possibilities I have found on the link sJoh  has kindly provided:

727-Silver met-69to80
728-Med grey met-73to76
737-silver met
743-silver met-76to77
745-Somma grey-75 all models
749-Gunmetal metallic-75only.

I guess its not gunmetal (assume this is the dark silver) and assume its not med grey met or somma grey...

Here's a pic of the car for those who may have some insite on the colour.

Hi Mike,
Looking at the colour of your car, I would say that its AR727 Grigio Chiaro. This was the same colour as my 82 GTV and I know the steel bumpered GTVs had this colour as well as GTs. I was in the same situation as you my cars colour code was missing, however we matched the original colour to AR727. My car was painted twice, first time in AR737 Grigio Metallitzzato (Grigio Met) which was a slightly darker silver with a hint of grey, then AR727 which is a fraction lighter silver, that seems to have more white in it.

Refer to the links below on the Alfa bb, first is a colour chart, while it references 105 colours remember some of the colours carried over to the Alfetta range and other Alfa's

Personally I liked AR737, what colour code is your GTV6 ?

One option is to get a colour sample of both silvers and make a decision from there

Hope this helps

Cheers
Pep

if you take off say the fuel flap to take to the paint shop wouldnt they be able to work out what it is and give you a sample to test? The silver front end respray  on my 81 alfetta was a fair bit off using the paint code as it had weathered over the years..

Mike

That's a great help, thanks guys.  My main issue is that for now, i am not painting the whole car, merely touching up blemishes, so the blending is critical.

Not sure what silver my GTV6 is, the paint is faided a bit, were GTV6's the same silver as the GT's as well?

From what you are saying, I reckon mine is 727 as well.

Mike,
What Martin suggested seems like a good idea to match the colour, I take it as yours is a GT it has a painted fuel flap rather than a screw on plastic fuel cap like the GTVs.

When I first bought the GTV I had to repair the rear qtr panel and with no colour code we went with AR727 and tuned the colour to suit.

The AR737 colour code at the time came from a friends 33Ti that my painter was repairing and as he had paint left over and the colour looked nice we used that for the first respray.

I think this silver was also used on late model GTVs and GTV6s as well.

Mike, My car is an Australian delivered 1979 silver Alfetta GTV.  I  had the same problem last year when trying to match the paint ( paint tag missing out of the hatch).

Your on the right track. THis is not the answer you are after but the paint is  either  AR 727  AR 728 or AR 737. I think it will be AR 737. It is the lighter silver if this is any help and not the silver on the 105's.

I went to Auto Barn last year and they have a product line called Power Plus Spray & Brush made by Holts. The store had a paint chart for this product and  the product that was the closest match to my car was  PJ 9130 which is called a Mercury silver. I have that can in front of me now but can't remember what  for sure what that corrosponds to with AR silvers. ( but it was a near perfect match for the alfetta)

As i said probably  AR 737. If you have an Auto Barn in Lonnie, just buy these three cans an you will have your answer.

PS : It wasn't quite a perfect match because the paint on my car is 30 years old and probably faded. If you havent got an Auto Barn near by drop my a PM and i will drop in and get the answer for you first thing Monday morning

Hi Paul,

I really appreciate your help.  We have decided it is 727, but the plot thickens, as depending on who you get to mix it up, the shades are ALL different between the different manufacturers.  We have now tried 6 cards and all 6 are slightly different, for the same 727...This is making the job of matching incredibly slow as my poor painter has to go back and forth having them adjust based on his best guess, let alone trying to get consitency from the supplier.

For anyone heading down this path, be warned, you may well end up having to blow the whole side of the car out just to touch up a gaurd.  We are getting there, but its a slow process.  Paul, care to flick me a link to where I can see more of your very nice GTV, and will it be at P.I this march?  I would love to see it in the flesh.

cheers
Mike
