multi car syndicate

I have often wondered about the validity of starting a syndicate of alfa owners to share our cars in order to experience some variety. It is impractical for me to own more than one classic car but I desire to experience other alfas without buying and selling continually.

My alfa is a 1970 1750 berlina that is undergoing a rolling restoration but is pretty presentable and is proving to be reliable after 5 months of ownership.

The idea would be to start with one other willing owner to see how it pans out and take it from there. Maybe monthly turnaround.

I know there would be many complications such as insurance and running costs to sort out but it is an attractive idea is it not? There maybe some other enthusiasts doing something similar who have developed a workable system that could provide some help.

I am a sensible driver of 48years of age and do not drive very much as I work from home. So the alfa driving I do is a weekend cruise around the burbs (I shall probably do an EMR a couple of times a year) and the occasional cross town meeting. I have one child who likes to ride in a booster seat when the opportunity arises. I particularly like 105's and ideally would like to have a mix of coupes and sedans of the four engine capacities in the range.

So if anyone has any interest in exploring this idea or has some information on forming such a syndicate then please respond to this post or send me an email at formaf@bigpond.com

Legalities aside, its a pretty simple idea.  See how you go.  I have a Alfa for weekend driving but it's a modern car so I do not fit the bill.

Like you've said, Insurance could be tricky. but this isn't such a bad idea much along the lines of those supercar clubs and could include models across the entire history of the marque. I doubt there will be many, if any offers, to drive a P3 or !59 Alfetta or 8C Competizione for that matter but it would give oppertunities for owners of all models to experience each others guilty pleasures  :D
Now-  '99 156 2.5l V6 (rosso)

Then- '81 Giulietta 2.0l transplant (ol whitey)

Andrew, I am sure you would luv the opportunity to drive a 75 3.0lt Potenziata or a 147 GTA Monza.  Hmm... ?  I would.

That's the idea - always looking for another - to add to the syndicate.

Another thought I had was joint ownership, but when you think of it the syndicate makes more sense. I would start off simply - two people, with one car each. The ingredients would be as follows

- two people who like and trust each other.
- cars which are of similar value.
- similar car storage situations.
- similar driving habits/styles.
- each owner is responsible for their cars running costs except for fuel and oil (top up after
each 'swap').
- both cars are comprehensively insured with the other person nominated as the other driver.

Then if it is successful then another member can be sought.

Sounds pretty simple to me. All we need is a willing participant.
