Just to add some more data to the discussion. Finally filled the ALFA up after noting the odometer a month ago. Car is a 2.5L 1983 GTV6, Standard except that the AFM has been fiddled with at some point. Pretty tired engine.

Straight city driving, mostly short trips I managed 15.24 L/100km. The owners manual states "Urban" 14.8 L/100km, so that's pretty close.

i had my 2.5ltr 90 running at 6.2 ltrs the other day on the highway and occassionly gets down to low 5's around town its doing around 10 to 11

I've just got to call SHENANIGANS on this one.  6.2ltrs/100km ?  Are you just reading that off the 1980s trip computer, or actually measuring fuel consumption compared to the trip meter?

What's the trip computer say your fuel consumption is at 250km/h ?

That what are You saying I consider normal for this cars and electronics from that time and I would be more than happy to gain consumption like Yours.
Yesterday my friend mechanic changed the ECU with another one and fine tuned CO,HC,O2 on the gas analyzer so we will see.I'm going to make some kilometers and calculations.Hopefully will be good this time.I will keep You posted.

well you are quite welcome to come for a drive to prove it and yes it may be off the trip computer but also i did say i can drive to sydney of a tank and to me the trip comp has got to be on the money for that one it is a 800 odd km drive of a 40 something ltr tank

Can't argue with that - 860km Bendigo to Sydney, 49 litre tank (say 45 litres between topups).  That's 5.2 l/100km?  Very impressive.  Have you got an Energy Polarizer fitted?

For my unleaded Gtv6 over 16 years of ownership I have averaged 10.5l/100km, ranging from 8 - 13 l/100km. Mostly city/freeway driving.

Our recent trip to Alfesta (2 up in the GTV6 and lots of luggage).
The car is standard (ZERO mods - apart from cruise control) but in good nick. And I tend to drive it enthusiastically - but do not speed! (Yes you can do both!)
Route was from Canberra via the Snowy Mountains (fortunately no snow then though) and Melbourne to Phillip Island. Then on to the Otways and Ballarat before heading back to and around Melbourne for a bit. Then back home. There was a fair mix of conditions, lots of mountains and windy roads (some very windy) but a fair bit of straight flat highay too - not the best combination for frugal fuel sipping.
Distance: 2714 km
Petrol (mostly 95 RON but some 98 - nothing less): 263.6 l
l / 100 km: 9.71
Which is actually about the same as I get from our 2 litre quad cam naturally aspirated Impreza (and its twenty years younger!)

So, Nikola I would be concerned too - hope you find the solution soon.

Ciao.

Yeah c'mon, 6l/100km and 250 km/h.  That must be some kind of magic chip you've got there.

That what You described in Your story is what I call here in Croatia consumption on open road and I think I would take mine on open road and drive around 100 km and see what will I get.I'm mostly concerned about driving thru town.Stop and go,little bit of sideways driving, little bit of normal driving and there I espect to have 14 litrs. on 100 kilometers not 19 ltrs. on 100 kilometers.Testing are still in progress.I will keep You guys posted.Once more thanks to everybody's tips and advices.

First 100 kilometers driving thru town with another ECU I got 14.2 litres on 100 kilometers. That means stop and go,little bit of sideways driving and little bit of normal driving.Tests are continuing and I have a feeling that this time everything would be fine.We will see.

well the secret, lookafter your car only use good fuel, good oil, do not drive like a idiot, and have a autodelta chip in it, but please do remember that i can get it down to these figures but that does not mean i do drive calmly all the time, how could i when i drive an alfa occasionaly you need to let the inner stig out and drive like a crazy man and when this happens the consumption is a little more on the wallet draining side
