hi all
i need a spare key for my 147, can i buy just the metal component.
how much to get a complete key in sydney.
any suggestions?

There is a chip in the plastic cover piece that enables the key to match up with the lock or ignition - like most modern cars.  With the handbook, there should be a card with details of the key code for replacement purposes.

Cheers.

More info.

QuoteI know the hassles regarding the in-built security chip, and losing the one and only key that I have, and I was planning on a workaround..... but I was in Chadstone shopping centre (Victoria,Australia) as I passed a key cutting stall, and I thought, what the hey, I'll just ask them and see what they say.

I was quite surprised when they said they could cut me a key AND program the chip all in one quick step, and all for $90.

may point you in the right direction.

Just on that I was intrigued when first reading that, I asked at two keysmiths and neither knew about it one being east entrance near k-mart.

Anyway here's more info about the key code & chip (note as stated in the article 147 whilst sharing some designs/components is different in many ways due to it's later release including the wiring system).

Hope it helps you.

I was the one quoted by John Hanslow above.... And yes it was Mister Minit at Chadstone shopping centre......

They put your original key into their machine, which reads and stores the security code.

Then they put the newly cut generic key in the machine, and it programs the generic chip with the correct code. They charged me $90
