Badges?

Hi everyone,

Just done some aesthetic improvements to my 1750 including re-painting a couple of panels, lowering the ride height, new timber veneers and block your ears purists, removed the bumpers. I know, I know shame on me, but hey I love that body and I thought it could do without the bling for a while.

One of the things I need to do now is find new badges, these would include the following:

Small made by Bertone badge
boot alfa romeo milano badge
both gold clover leaf badges from the pillars.

Can anyone help me out with where in Australia I could get these? I know I can got to the UK (alfaholics ect) but its very expensive.

Hi Lucas,

1750 looks really nice, like it with no bumpers the series 2 has a great front end

You could try Milano spares they might have the badges your after, or check out the sponsers page

Where did you get the veneers from? Also is it how the cars parked because looks like the fronts sitting lower than the back, or is it just the way the road dips ?

The gold quadrifoglio badges are very expensive, but it's much cheaper to re-plate them. I had mine done for $25 years ago at a specialist electroplaters in Nunawading. The recessed areas need repainting, but that's not too difficult.

I thought they were enamelled? I need to get mine done (green/off white) but havent seen anyone doing it

There is a guy doing a brillant 105 1750 restoration in Melbourne. A lot of the work was being done by Sams Panels's in Clayton . Its on both Alfa BB (USA) & Alfa Owner (UK) . I just can't find the links right now. Long story , I know . However he did get a lot of the badges remade.

I believe they are glazed enamel, since that's most durable. I left mine for years without fitting them because I couldn't find any arts suppliers that knew about or could supply the appropriate glazes, though I think that might be easier now... and a community pottery class would have access to a kiln...

However with today's amazing chemical enamels I reckon you can do pretty well with a brush and a steady hand... all I lacked was the steady hand so the result isn't perfect, but I'm sure I could have got help with that.

Your eyes are not decieving you pep105 the front is slightly lower. I am waiting for some new tensioned springs from Kmac so the ones on it at the moment have just been chopped at a bit to keep it on the road. work in progress if you know what I mean.

Veneers are from alfaholics uk and I have installed it myself. They are imitation wood, but I can assure you they are top quality, stronger, scratch resistant and don't require any varnish. I was a bit skeptical at first as I like things to be honest but these have one me over.

Another thing I need is a 1750 steering wheel as I think this one is a 2000, any ideas?

Hi Lucas

I am in the middle of restoring my series 1 1750 so I have need of the ivory and gold side badges, I have the others. did you have any luck?
Plus not being a purist as well, I like what you have done with removal of the bumpers. I would like to also look at this with my car, however I have bumper mounted indicators. Do you know if I can retro fit series 2 indicators onto my series 1? also do you know where I can get em.

I too would check out Milanos first, however, given the exchange rate between Aus and the UK, Classic Alfa would also be worth checking out. From past investigations Classic Alfa are often slightly less expensive to Alfaholics. EB Spares, Highwood Motor Co, in the UK or alterntively IAP or Centreline in the US also could be worth checking. The problem in trying to get a locally sourced, one off made/re-enammelled badge is that they generally don't look quite right. I have a Fiat Badge that someone locally made up for AC 124 sports and it just isn't right, though nicely done nethertheless.

Re removal of the front bumper, if you have the lights mounted on top of the bumper it means you have a series 1 rather than series 2 1750. The problem there I think (given I have a series 1) is that the series 1 doesn't have the cutout that the series 2 would for the indicator/park light lens body and so it would be difficult to mount it onto the front valance.

I am sure there is a solution, and perhaps a quick check of the Alfaholics site might help as I am pretty sure they have some pics of a series 1 1750 that has had its bumpers removed to make into a sort of GTA rep. Alternatively check out the Alfabb site and look for thread on pics of GTVs under the GTV Section, for I am sure there will be some pics of how to do this. Dave

Your crazy. The series 1 1750 is such a special model in so many ways, unique seats, great instruments,.... delicate little indicators on the bumbers that cost four times the value of the series 2 lights, front valance panel uncluttered or holed for lights.............leave the bumpers on!

Lucas, I noticed you were asking re the steering wheel on your 1750, yes you are correct that indeed is a wheel off a 2L, it is quite deeply dished whereas the 1750 Hellebore wheels were more flat, though not totally flat, if you understand.

Now as to where to get one, well you might be lucky and find one 2nd hand on ebay, but I would be keeping a close eye out on both here in Aus and the States. Also you might be able to get a new one (replica ??) from Alfaholics or Classic Alfa, I just can't quite recall if these are being re-made.

An excellent alternative is to fit up a Nardi Classic (wood rim, polished alloy spokes) wheel. You can get these on ebay.com 2nd hand, mostly out of Japan. For some reason they seem to have plenty available over there. I have bought 3 of these so far, one for myself, my brother in law and a mate. The price approx $100-170 depending on the level of interest over the auction. Are they real not fakes, well as far as I can tell yes.

The quality is superb, they look the part in a 105 and they have a really nice feel. Worth checking out I reckon. Dave

Hi Lucas,

I have a 1750 as well and have been planning to remove the bumpers for a while, yours looks great. I noticed that you have installed the Timber veneer in the center console with out the chrome strips either side. My chrome strips are damaged and have been unsure what to do about them before installing my new veneers. Can you post a photo for me of your center console veneers? I might go with out the chrome!
