Alfa Oz warranty/goodwill

Unfortunately I haven't had the result I was after 

I have ended up having to stump up for the full $1600 to replace my timing chain  As explained before, I tried going directly to Alfa Italy but they politely referred me back to the utterly useless and very annoying Alfa Australia and they simply trotted out the usual 'out of warranty' blah blah - even though the car was initally barely 3-4 months out of warranty when it first occurred!

I'm still trying to reason with Alfa Oz & Italy but don't fancy my chances anymore - very annoying given my love of all-things Alfa and never having claimed before and also running a GT but hey, what can you do??? They obviously rely on new sales and not looking after exisiting customers - somewhat short-sighted one could say!

On the plus side my car has never driven so well

so u got the initial $544 set off against the $2100 right?

why would u go back to the dealer if they treat you like that? find a good specialist and f the dealer.

I should like to ponit out that when i drove the car up from Sydney I had a good 3 hour heart palpatation when the light initially came on and I though I had broken the damn thing.

After 3 hours the Alfa specialists said it was a loose wire. I sometimes wonder if any of them really know what they are doing if a computer doesnt tell them what is wrong. Oh no hang on a computer did tell them!

I stick to my first comment. Buy a 2000 GTV mate

Wankski - No I did not get the $544 off the total bill as they maintain the part was faulty even though the light remained on once it was replaced. They just dug their heels in and denied, denied, denied!!

Normally I wouldn't go anwhere near Alfa main dealers but as I was pushing for a warranty/goodwill gesture I had no option. It was left at their garage - in bits - whilst I was away for 3 weeks and I simply ran out of time discussing a warranty/goodwill gesture whilst away to then get it re-built and taken to my independant as I needed the car for work. The independant was going to charge $1200+GST anyway so I negotiated and it ended up being done by Alfa for $1600 so 'only' a few hundred dollars out by comparison. And I'm STILL pushing for a goodwill gesture but pretty damn sure having had discussions with either an amazingly stupid or - more likely - an extremely arrogant chap called 'Adam' at Alfa Oz, there's not much hope from them so am back discussing with Alfa Italy...

Sportiva - the light first appeared at about 78,000kms and 3 years 4 months old.....at the same time w47ty was driving it so I'll let you draw your own conclusions there 

W47ty - a friend of mine who works in the industry tells me that a 'loose wire' diagnosis is the generic term for 'tell 'em something to get rid of 'em as we can't be arsed with it'...an so it proved!! On the plus side mate, the car has never driven so well and even with the issues I've had a) I still LOVE it and b) we still saved thousands$$$!
