I'm new to Alfa and here, 2002 147 sillyspeed

I'm very happy to find this forum.
I've purchased a 2002 147 with the silly speed gears.
The thing that annoys me the most is I was only given one key with the battery tray missing. So ive put in a battery and the key seems to be sending a signal but there is no reaction from the locks. The key works manually but I'd like to get the remote function going - especially to open the hatch. Ive tried putting the key in the reader and pushing some buttons. nothing.
Any help would be appreciatted.

you will need to take it to a dealer re key prob

Thanks dehne for your prompt reply. A dealer sounds expensive and anti-competitive but if thats what it takes then off to a dealer I go.

you can get keys cut at mister mint and they do program off ur key but im thinking that if the current key program is not working then a dealer should be able to sort it out maybe check with a dealer first about the key not working then if they can fix it easy or tell u that they cannot then ur key cut elsewhere

Also new member - also Alfa 147 "silly speed" (I like it!)!

I love the new wheels, but apparently mine needs a new selespeed actuator and these are reasonably pricey (dealer didn't mention that...).  Any hints on a reconditioned or pre-loved actuator (if such a wonderous thing exists)?

I do not know what state yu live in but check ourt sposors link on the state AR home pages.  Ours is on top right hand side.  Also on forum too.

So we do have a few club sponsors who are Alfa Specialists in the marque who are an option to the dealer network.  It just depends what you decide.  Their prices are fair and reasonable and you get the right advice on what is required to be done and when. 

It is always recommended to get these guys to service you car.  Check out the sponsors link on top right had side of home page.  However I normally recommend say Maranello in Brunswick, The Italian Job in Clayton and Monza Motors in Bayswater to name a few.  All on public transport links of sorts. 

With the factory Alfa diagnostic equipment (like the dealers) any system fault can be diagnosed and the costs sorted for new or reconditioned units.

Others may comment on the risk or reliability of that choice.
