lads,

I have right rear brake light mystery. the bulb is not blown, as it works on parking lights. There is power going to it and I've checked the wire (red one) to see if there is a breakage, nothing I can see. I've also wd40'd the connectors.

It just doesn't work.

Suggestions?

#3
try pulling out the bulb
NOW PULL THE WIRING BLOCK OFF THE TAIL LIGHT [to disconnect power] or you will blow the fuse
look into the socket were bulb goes and check the tab that touches against the bottom of the bulb
sometimes the tabs need to be lifted up slightly for a proper connection

I had exactly the same issue on mine! I checked fuses, wires, earths, bought new bulbs etc.......

Then realised that the tab underneath the bulb wasn't touching to make the brake light work! Only took me a day to figure it out.

I just used a small flat headed screw driver to lift the tab up enough to touch the bulb!

Works fine!

Ahhh the joys of Alfa's!!! Love It!!

Cheers

yeah I already thought of that, but since that the actual bulb is on when the lights are on, surely its making a good connection?

tail light and brake light are seperate bulbs on my car single filament not twin
dont really understand your problem  you have tail lights but no brake lights or one brake light ?
if all connections look good and you have no brake lights it might be the switch at the pedal
my tail and brake lights took weeks to get right every time I looked one or the other wasnt working
wd 40, earth wires, wet and dry on contacts finally fixed them

ok so on mine, there are two bulbs in the rear light cluster. 2 left and 2 right.

both bulbs light up when I turn my headlights on, and the outer bulb lights up brighter when you stomp on the brake.

left hand side everything is fine, both bulbs work on lights and brake.

right hand side both bulbs work on lights, but not on brake.

that is my conundrum.

yes had memory loss ::)  of the two lights the inside are tail lights single filament....
outside are brake and tail twin filament.      sorry for any confusion

I had a look at a spare tail light cluster I have. You could try bypassing the circuit board and run a wire directly between the brake light wire on the connector block and the tab under the bulb, also check the connector block on the other cluster were it piggybacks over. i will investigate further and let you know if I come up with any ideas, the curcuit board is easily removed without taking the whole cluster out of the car just undo the connector block and release the tabs either side of the curcuit board pull it straight out bulbs and all
