This is from sundays age newspaper - 1st august.

It is a timely reminder of why paperwork for our club events should be in good order at all times.

All the officials and event command for the day, and competitors in his run group are no doubt being interviewed by police and may be called upon to appear before the coroner. 

If found to be negligent in their scrutiny of vehicles or control (or lack thereof) the event ie not deploying yellow/red flags as circumstances require, or if they were negligent in the driver or officials briefing regarding safety of vehicles or on the track then they may find themselves in a civil court defending against a damages claim.

Let this be a reminder to us that as it says on the back of the ticket - motorsport can be dangerous and as the TAC ads tell us - it has far reaching effects.  I hope you will all join me in wishing this two wheel warrior a peaceful rest and his family every strength while we remember that "she'll be right, it'll sort itself out" can hurt and is no attitude to have @ the track.

Motorcyclist killed at Phillip Island

A YOUNG motorcyclist was killed yesterday during a suburban club championship race at the Phillip Island circuit.

The man, 26, of Hadfield, died after he collided with two other bikes about 4.30pm.

Police said a second man was taken to Wonthaggi Hospital, while a third required treatment on the track

A police spokesperson last night said details about the cause of the crash were still being gathered but a report would be presented to the coroner.
