garaging - how?

Now I know I'm not the only person on this board with more than two cars, and only a 2 car garage.

What are people doing to store their cars out of the weather?

At the moment my GTA is sitting out in the rain on the driveway which I'm not proud of, and I'm considering another purchase in the reasonably close future which would mean the 156 would be relegated out of the garage too. Now the 156 is driven by my partner, and she carries out 4 week old daughter in it, so kicking this car out of the garage is not a very palatable move.

I've considered getting four wheel dolly's and pushing the fulvia sideways up to the back of the garage and parking the two alfas in front, which would probably be OK, but if I add another car, I'm going to be out of luck, since the garage isn't wide enough for two cars sideways.

So general question, what are people doing? how are you storing cars?

Friends, relatives, offsite storage (how much $$) ??

have any of you installed car stackers/lifts in your garage? I only have 2700cm to play with - not sure the cost/benefit works out, even if I can fit it.

I rent a lockup garage for my 1750 GTV and Fiat 124 sport, while my 156 Sportwagon and Giulia Super project live at home out in the elements, the Super being under car covers.  Hardly ideal but it is all I can manage at the moment. Good luck in sorting out your storage problems.  One day I will build a proper garage for my cars.

Add in a couple of teenage kids & their cars parking is a real  problem. At the moment my 105 lives in the garage, where it has sustained more damage than 15 years of driving . My Alfetta lives outside under the best car cover i could buy ( expect to pay $100 - $150 for a good one). This is a three layer breathable one. It is currently over 2 years old and still very servicable

Hi all, thanks for pointing that out Brad, but yes quite correct, so the rental prices are likely to vary between Hobart and Melbourne.  However, just for the record, I was (a) lucky to get hold of the garage, from 2 mates who used to store their cars their.  It is a 2 car garage, with a huge door, which thankfully is lockable and off the main drag.  I pay $120 a month. 

Personally I wish I didn't need to have to use it as the garage is across town from where I live, and it is a pain to get the cars out of the garage since the driveway services some flats and all too often the tennants block the drive.  Still it is better than nothing.

I guess perhaps one option could be to look at the papers under the rental sections, talk to Realos or alternatively put an add in the local shop ?  Otherwise do you have any relatives with spare space ??  Goodluck.  Dave

I did a letter drop in the local area with a business card attached. I now rent a number of garages in the Canterbury area predominantly from little old ladies who like a chin wag. I am paying $100/month and pay 12 months in advance. I check the garage for weather protection, dampness and security. I indicate that movement and intrusion is at most weekly and I provide a couretsy call so as not to scare anybody.
All good so far. Some of these old ladies are real petrol heads and love the older cars!
My next source of garages is at my Mums retirement village. All units have a single car garage and there are many without cars anymore!

The cars stored at the retirement village does that mean you could get the registration at pensioner rate?

You wish Ray.     Only would have to hope though then that some pensioner doesn't mistake your car for their zimmerframe or scooter !!
