Fitting 17" 147 wheels to my 116 GTV6

I recently purchased some 17" 147 rims for my GTV6.

I am currently awaiting delivery.

I know they are the same offset and stud pattern, but I was told that they wont fit unless i have the wheel machined.

Is this true and if so what needs to be done? If it is a difficult job is there anyone that can be recommended to do it in the northern suburbs of Melbourne?

you might need to get the holes in the wheels drilled for the hubs.

You'll most likely need a set of spacers for the front. This wiil give the clearance you need for the hub as well as correct the offset without having the wheels machined. If the offset isn't a worry then you'll only need something like a 3mm spacer to clear the hub.

The wheels will fit, we fitted some 16" 147 and 156 and 17" 156 wheels to 116 GTV's and 116 GTV6's as well as the sedan and Giulietta.

Get a file or a die grinder and remove the 5 little tabs in the wheel centres, then the wheels will slot into the hub nicely.

As mentioned by others above, check the offset but you should be okay.  Also beware of brake caliper clearance, you might need the 3 mm spacer.

Check your wheel studs too, so there is enough thread, also the wheel nuts too.  I think this is the important bit.

Other than that, it should be good.

I personally think 16" are better proportioned and better looking, that said, I have a brand new set of 17" 30 spoke rims doing nothing at the moment, never being on car.

Fit them up and see, it'll be pretty obvious if they're not going to sit flush.  I've always thought you just need to open up the centre bore hole a tad, like 1mm or something, but this is probably the same thing that Neil is saying.  It's pretty hard for us to tell if your wheel nuts will fit from this distance, again you'll have to try them and see.

It's likely that no-one on this forum has fitted those particular wheels to a GTV6.  BTW, they remind me of these wheels...

This will work. I did this to fit sr20 wheels to a sigma . I used a file and a drill bit.

i am using spacers on the 90 for the 156 rims was easier to do and quicker buy a full set front and rear for $50 im using 5mm

You should be able to work out the difference between stock (195/60R15) and your new tyre/wheel combo using the calculators here:

Wheels on, bores needed to be machined to make them fit and wheel rash taken care of so they look new, total for $200 from Coburg wheel repairs who did a great job.
