Hi All

My carb mounts are looking a bit suspect so I'm going to replace them
After some advice on the best replacement options
Should I go for the original type or the aluminum ones available through Alfaholics?
Also do I have to remove the manifold with the thermostat in it?

Cheers

Do Alfahloics supply an alloy replacment for the rubber mounts?
Or have you mistaken them with "inlet manifold extensions" usually 50mm or 80mm in length these are placed between the carbie and the rubber mount usually on modified engines to complement a change in camshaft
the reason for rubber mounts is to minimize aeration of the fuel in the float bowl through vibration directly from the engine
the rubber carbie mounts split and crack with heat and age , eventuallty they split and leak air into the manifold and lean off the mixture this makes the idle eratic and could at worst burn holes in pistons
Often the mounts look cracked or split but these cracks are often superficial and you don't need to worry
If you suspect your rubber mounts are cracking all the way through  a simple test is warm the engine and spray a mixture of detergent and water onto the rubber mounts and see if there is a change in the idle speed

Yes. In two lengths.

Fetta GTV,
Yes you will need to take off your inlet manifold from the head, the rubber mounts are bolted on from the inside. Is your car standard?,you can use extension manifolds with or without rubber mounts depending on how they are made,ie for what purpose, with or without the rubbers. If you are mounting straight on to the carbs without rubbers there are things called soft mount kits readily available,I use these instead of rubbers on my race car with extension manifolds of my own design.

Thanks for the input guys
Yes the car is standard, so I,m not looking for extensions
The Alfaholics mounts have a washer kit with rubber buffers
I'll have to get a inlet manafold gasket as well

Those "Rubber Buffers" should also have a gasket for each carby that looks like a pair of big "O" rings to seal the Carbys-this is what you buy locally as a soft mount Kit,I use Red Line ones.

Hi Andrew

Yeah, they also come with the "O" ring as well
99 british pounds for the kit, would these be a better option than the original type from centreline

Yes,the bits in both pictures are the goods, they will work well-just be sure when you assemble it you don't over tighten the nuts on the carbs and crush the buffers and "O" rings.
