Hi guys,

Just bought a pioneer MVH8250 HU for my much loved alfa 147 2002,did a small research to find out how to retain the steering wheel controls.
Spoke to stinger who said they sell parts in retail but did give me the part number for the stalk adapter and the patch lead(3.5mm) cable for pioneer.

Checked a few stores in Australia who quoted 300$ just for the parts + 200$ for labour,pheeewwwww.
I bought the stalk adapter and the patch lead with Facia kit and shipping for 75$ from UK.Awaiting delivery.
was wondering if i can do the install myself. Is it hard to do,
can anyone help me with this, also,if i get stuck does anybody know of an auto elctrician who can help me get the job done without blowing my wallet,

any help will be appreciated.

Wow....that seems like a lot of work!

I have considered doing the same, simply to have iPod controls, but its an expensive exercise hey !

I might just have to use one of those awful iTrip things while i sort out what i am doing long term

i don't know about the 147, should be the same, but 156 u have 4 holes to stick some metal length into and u can eject the HU.... the stalk adaptor + lead will plug right in... simples...

i highly suggest u also get the correct alfa to pioneer harness... or its a lot of soldering... which is basically BS...

yeah but what sort of cable do you need? What sort of connection does it have to have at the head unit end?

if you bought the correct stalk adaptors these will fit b/w the headunit and the harness which u then connect to the unit... U will have to check if your aftermarket HU takes steering wheel control. If it does, the steering control adaptor has two parts. 1. iso looking plugs to connect from main harness to a regular iso plug, then 2. iso plug to h/u interface which looks like a regular 3.5mm headphone jack. the 3.5mm jack plus into your aftermarket HU... so what u're probably thinking is right... u'll likely have limited control (most manufacturers focus on volume, might get seek)

for H/U harness, again, u need the specific alfa to pioneer harness, which u simply plug the cars harness into the adaptor, then the adaptor into the unit... (u'll have to check the wiring)

alfa used ISO standard plugs BUT, did not use standard ISO wiring convention... so u need the specific alfa/brand of HU stuff...

yep, typically alfa annoying...

Yeah in other words, forget about it !

I am looking into some bluetooth carkits that do phone and music.

Thanks
