There is a spring on the back of the clutch pedal that I've had broken three times before. Tonight was the fourth. There was a creak so I started moving it back and forth anf the f..in thing broke again. To make matters worse I was going on a long 5thousand K trip tomorrow (Sunday).

I'm rather pissed off. I either have to tow it to the Alfa place on Monday or hopefully use something like a split pin to hold the pivot in place to get it to the garage.

Four times broken. Can anyone suggest what to do either temporary or is it easy enough to fit myself. Sounds like I need a bag of them. Any pictures anywhere.

Actually this is an official recall:

147/GT with manual transmission
Recall or Fault: recall
Build Date: 3/2003 -4/2006
Concern: clutch may fail
Description: on a number of RHD ALfa Romeo 147 and GT models there is a possibility that the clip which secures the connecting pin between the clutch cylinder and the clutch pedal, may become detached resulting in loss of clutch operation
Remedial Action: fit with a redesigned retaining clip

Well I got the RACQ (AA)guy out first thing this morning. He bent the broken clip and managed a temporary fix so I'll drive to the Alfa service centre first  in the morning and get a couple of spares. Of course the cruise control doesn't work. Hopefully it just needs adjustment like last time.

He suggested that I get a spare and get one made out of stainless steel at a local fishing tackle shop. It sounds like a good idea.

Thanks,

Vic
