Performance Mods for Series 1 1750 GTV 105

Hi

i was wondering what performance mods were available for the Ser1 1750.
What is available? Will a LSD from a 2 litre just bolt on? Any mods neccessary?

Hi Lindon

The 4 tailshaft and diff locating holes are smaller on your tailshaft and bigger on the diff.  8mm-9mm (by memory)
Enlarge the holes on the tailshaft and use the 2 litre bigger bolts,or just use the 2 litre tailshaft + bolts and a unit.
While you are there,check the trailing arm bushes ,front + rear,+ the top diff bushes,and the a-arm thrust washers.
Check the universal joints + centre tailshaft support and tailshaft dounut
Check the shocks while you are there also.
Have seen many 2 litre diffs installed with the small bolts.
This causes the bolts and flanges to moove,causing failures.

Hey again Lindon.

The 2 litre 105s come with 3 diff ratios.
Auto is 3.2 LSD,,,Coupe is 4.1 LSD and Berlina with 4.3.LSD
An option,especially where you live is an auto 3.2 ratio.(country N.S.W.)
3.2 will give you high speed and low engine RPM.
The most common performance ratio is a 4.3 from a manual Berlina.
And make sure its a 4.3 cause many have been swapped over the years
I have a 3.2 LSD in one of my 2 litre  manual engined Coupes.
Fantastic ratio is the high speed country,and i like it.
Then comes the speedo calibration.
Thats another story.

On the street, track, hillclimb or rally?

The performance package should be tailored for the application.

Good point= where do you want it and when.
I was just replying to the diff question.
Then there is the brakes,suspension + engine mods etc.usually in that order
1750 series 1 have the smaller front calipers and pads,so upgraded to series 2 1750 or 2 litre would be a good start.

Perfect -for restoration work back to originale.

For performance stuff, it is necessary to know the end objective and work backwards to get there spreading the budget evenly so the entire car gets the treatment to the same standard.

Pointless having a hot engine that rips your nuts off on the first blast only to find you got Fred Flinstone shoes for brakes.. you would be amazed how many dickheads are out there with a fixation about one aspect and completely lose sight of the balance.

Another good starting point Lindon, is Alfaholics in the UK, check out their website. What they don't know or sell re performance modifications to 105 coupes is probably not worth knowing.  Email Max Banks and fire away all the questions you have.

Another and closer to home alternative is Vin Sharp at Pace Engineering.  He too undoubtedly could lighten your wallet if desired, and is especially knowledgeable.
