105 marked cams in GTV engine

Purchased a spare engine for my 1980 GTV, however upon disassembly found the cams to be stamped 105.....
Were 105 cams originally installed in GTV engines ? Or is what I purchased an hybrid (which will never run)?

I wouldn't be dissappointed . I would be jumping for joy. Putting 105 cams in your 116 Alfetta is/was a very sensible upgrade . Alfa post pollution cams (116 series) only have one use . Tomato stakes.

It's not the "105" number you want to see, it's the next digits.  "48" is good (as in 10548...) rather than "2003" (as in 1052003....). 

There are quite a few parts on an Alfetta that still have 105 part numbers. Camshafts are one.

Alister aren't 105---- camshafts specific to 105 series Alfa's and 116----- specific to Alfetta's. But a 10548 cam is a easily swapped to an Alfetta engine and helps produce the qualities of the sweeter & slightly more powerful  pre pollution engine.

Hi Paul,

Camshaft numbers carried over.  Some very early Alfetta's had 10548 cams, same as 105's whereas most had 1052003....

You live & learn ,your right the 1.8 Alfetta GT's would of had the 10458 cams.

I still stand you my  tomato stake comments.

Yep - the red one that Dave / Steve / I / Tim owned had them.

The full stamping on the cam shaft reads: 1054803  200.01
With the 548 cams what improves: power output, torque, responsiveness in general ?
Besides the installation and a tuneup, anything else?
