How to remove a distributor?

I'm about to remove the distributor in order for it to be reconditioned and I was wondering if there are any traps for young players that I need to be aware of.  The Haynes Manual says I should "Mark the position of the clamp plate nut in relation to the cut-out in the clamp plate.  Unscrew the clamp plate nut (not the clamp plate pinch bolt) and withdraw the distributor from its recess."

Frankly this advice could be written in Swahilli as it makes no sense to me at all.  Can anyone translate for a numpty who has never removed a distributor before?  I'm pretty sure I know which is the correct nut to remove but as for the cut-out in the clamp plate, and marking the nut's position I am high and dry.

I just did mine and took piccies with the digital as I pulled it apart to get the orientation of the rotor and the body of the dizzie.  Came in handy.

Just the one nut on the clamp plate is all that held mine in.
