Mr Frog

The Lockheed booster on my 105 has finally given up the ghost altogether, and i need to get it  refurbished or replaced. It is the single-system booster and the only identifying marks on it are Lockheed 0287. Is there an alternative booster available (where from and cost), or can I buy one already refurbished (where from and cost), or where can i get my one refurbished (cost). I'm in Cairns, to make matters more difficult.

Hi there,

I know that Milano's here in Melb sell reconditioned Bonaldi  boosters (usually on a changeover basis) - which were std fitment on a lot of the 105 series.  I'd say I've used at least 4 of them over various years and 105s.

I would think any reasonable brake place would be able to rebuild your lockheed for you - or substitute a modern PBR type equivalent which may give more power boost if you like.

A friend of mine has a 1750 GTV with dual circuit brakes with two PBR boosters instead of the original bondaldi gear.   They are a tight fit in the engine bay - but are larger diameter which gives more power asssist - which may or may not be your thing :)

Hope that helps !

Cheers,

Mr Frog

thanks 4 that ad105 - I am after the lockheeds.

Mr Frog

I went for a PBR booster in the end - much more convenient in Cairns and simple to repair if there are problems on the backroads i use to travel between here and Melbourne. It fitted in without a bracket, and I must say that the pedal gives very good feedback - easily as good as when the Lockheed booster was working (there are some posts elswhere on the forum expressing misgivings about how suitable the PBRs are).

Repair kits for most of the 105 Alfas Series are getting hard to find these days, and can be expensive.

I would recommend sticking with single booster system as they are a hell of a lot easier to work on and get to function properly than bleeding the twin booster systems.

Be a little wary of the rebuilt units. I tried 2 or 3 before I finally got one that was OK.

Some rebuilders of them are not as competent as they believe themselves to be

Mr Frog

You are dead right. my lockheed booster had been rebuilt, and not very well. I spoke to a couple of people who rebuild boosters here in Cairns and in Victoria and both said the lockheed bits were getting increasingly rare. So I've now got a off-the-shelf PBR unit that can be repaired by anyone anywhere anytime, and I also got the master cylinder overhauled at the same time. HOWEVER. I went for a long drive today and there is definitely a bit of stickyness in the system which may mean a look at the calipers (oh no!).

I bought a lockheed booster repair kit last year from Chris Sweetapple at http://www.highwoodalfa.com, and put it away.  Not cheap.  No idea who can rebuild the booster, I just bought the bits.

cheers,
Evan.
