Can this permit scheme be used to register an otherwise non register-able car? Im thinking something imported

Barry Edmunds

It would depend on the age of the vehicle and whether it was roadworthy.

The 25 year requirement still stands.

Fantastic! Who has NOT been anticipating this turn of events?! Its justification for not selling any cars...and an excuse to buy more!! :P

Interestingly as you have to be a car club member to be eligable under the new Club Permit scheme, the result will be a big bonus for smaller and regional clubs in Victoria.

Paul, no it is 25 years.  The initial proposal was to move out to 30 yrs, but there was vehement opposition by nearly everyone on this point (the 2 main arguments were 1. the extra time for some vehicles to become viable as a hobby vehicle will result in a number of cars being scrapped and 2. it will make it more difficult for younger people to become involved).  So VicRoads took note  ;D

So will they be changing the rules that DoTARS has for importing a vehicle from overseas so that in (say) 2015 I could import a 1990 Alfa Romeo ZS and use it as a club race car, but registered under this system?
'95 Alfa Romeo 155 Q4
'90 Alfa Romeo 33 1.7 IE - my god! I can compete in Trofeo class!! -

I'm jealous!

It would be nice if WA updated their scheme to match yours! 3 classics would then cover me for all my driving needs!

Cheers
