I love my Fiat twin cam in my 124 Sport !! Ditto my Alfa motors, including that in my 156. They are Italian rather than some dull VW derived motor, aka like in the 924 etc.

924 - man that's going back a while. Try the current 987 or 997 engines. Amazing.

Thats fine but they aren't 4cyl, but instead flat 6s and for sure top motors. Hmn a flat 6 in an Alfa that could be very interesting. I wonder how a V10 Lambo motor might go in the 8C say rather than the V8. Just a thought.

Just as long as its from our family and its a good motor and made in ITALY, that is Fiat or Lancia, not the latest 'units' they purchase from American based company's, please don't forget the heart of the car is the motor, a flat four boxer motor sounds like a good idea, thats what made Suds and 33's so unique and Boxers have done Subaru a world of good, as for the new V-6 from the mob that used to make Valiants?, i know its a good motor buts its not ITALIAN!, get it?, Colin.

Ahm I kind of think that was my point Col. I want my Alfa to be Italian, otherwise whats the point ? I have never owned a non Italian car in my life, and I don't intend starting to anytime soon.

I accept that some components will be brought in but for sure the heart needs to remain Italian for me.

David - I think it's time you ventured out to the other side!

Personally I've owned and enjoyed something like 13 Alfa's and a couple of Fiats (ok so they were a 1965 1500 Crusader and 1970 125) and my family has had a series of both Fiat's (from 500 Bambino's through Uno's, Tipo's, and a current Punto) and Alfa's (GTV's, 75's, 164's, 156's) but there is life and soul north of the Alps. Take the current M3 V8 or M5 V10. Would we argue if Alfa used one of those engines? Same with the AMG engines. Just listen to a current AMG V8 under load - makes the spine tingle just as much as an Alfa V6 and so much better than those donkey engines from GM or Chrysler!

Yes i know that the germans make excellent motors, i am not arguing about that, even if Alfa were to use Ferrari as an engine supplier i would still not be happy, as it should be made by the family, Fiat and Lancia, i know Alfa cannot make everything, i don't care where the other bits come from and in these modern times there will have to be a certain amount of product rationisation, but while in the past you could accuse Alfa of being substandard on electrics and corrosion issues, you could never say their engines were anything less than fantastic, Colin.
